Enjoy walking in the nature with trecking shoes! Be careful there are many people in the top season.

There are several hiking courses around Mt Takao. This is a very popular area to hike and enjoy a day out, considering it is very accessible from Tokyo. On a clear day and in fine weather, you may be able to see Mt Fuji from...More

Takaosan (Mount Takao) is one of the closest natural recreation areas to central Tokyo, offering beautiful scenery, an interesting temple and attractive hiking opportunities. Although outside the city center, the mountain is still located within metropolitan Tokyo and takes only 50 minutes and 390 yen...More

I enjoyed the hike although it's a very steep and challenging one. The view from the top is priceless, all of Tokyo is visible from up there. The chair lift is very fun, but might not be recommended for people who are afraid of heights....More

Just 55 min trip on JR limited express from Shinjuku station to the destination. (Note: Don't take LOCAL train: it will take more than 1.5 hr!) The trails start right at the station and offer a choice from a paved one (for an easier stroll)...More

I decided to head out to Mt. Takao instead of spending my final day in Tokyo because I was tired of the crowds, and I'm so glad I did. This mountain, covered in hiking trails, temples, monuments, and shrines, is an easy (and cheap) train...More

We chose to take the chairlift up (small charge), then hiked trail 4 to the top. Trail 4 is a wooded footpath, some log-steps, and squidgy if wet. Take hiking boots and poles if you have them, though we saw many in trainers. Some good...More

Takaosan is located at the end of the KEIO line in Hachiochi, around 30 minutes from Shinjuku. It is a great destination from downtown Tokyo for a one day hiking trip. The course itself is not very challenging, anyone with moderate fitness level should be...More

A great day trip from Tokyo. There are a few different paths you can choose which are clearly marked at the beginning of the trek. Some nice temples along the way, and the view from the top is nice.

Traveling to Takao-san from central Tokyo is simple enough on the Keio line, but illustrates why the correct response to someone who tells you that they live in Tokyo is "Do you mean central Tokyo?". The greater metro area (read: province) includes vast suburbs and...More
