When visiting Bilbao and the Biscaye region, this place was on my must-visit list. When a local mentioned it had been used as a location to film Game of Thrones, the expections went through the roof. And we weren't disappointed. The place is impressive. Not to miss when in the neighbourhood ! Yes, the walk is steep and not easy.

We were lucky to have a warm, sunny day. The hike is, roundtrip, almost 4 km and is very steep. But, the views and the experience were absolutely worth it!

We parked at a parking lot close to two bars/cafés and walked down the hill. It was pavement first and than steps. Some of them quite high. Luckily it was dry but I can imagine that it might be really slippery when wet especially because there were leaves and pine needles lying around. The view to Gaztelugatxe from the viewing... More

Driving south from France, we set the GPS for Bakio and then got directions to the large free parking lot at the beginning of this site. Doing this hike in early October, the weather was perfect--cool but sunny. With water in hand, we started off down the hill and steps leading to the bridge taking us across to the steps... More

Probably one of the most beautiful spots in the Basque Country. Try also after the visit the restaurant Eneperi. Great food and a beautiful view to the island.

The lady from the tourist agency recommended this to us because a lot of other things were closed due to a bank holiday that we were not aware of. It's a very beautiful location for pictures and picnics. it's only 30 mins walking (so 1h in total) so you can really take your time.

One of the most wonderful places to visit in the Basque Country with no doubt. Need to go with confortable shoes because there are many stairs to climb before reaching the top and the church, but the views up there deserve it. Try to go with nice weather conditions.

Ok, so the walk isn't half as bad as it looks in the photos! Unless you have mobility issues then it's totally walkable, some will just take longer than others. It's a gorgeous walk and a great view. Beautiful church at the top with awesome views. Go. You won't regret it. Really easy to get to from Bilbao on the... More

We cancelled our 1 Hat Michelin restaurant lunch so we could go to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe! It's a windswept, beautiful island, not far from Bilbao. It turned out to be the second last day the bus runs, then it's season over! Anyway, we had a great day. The place is quite magical as it dates back to the 10th... More
