This central square is located next to La Rambla and the skyscraper hotel Gran Sol. It was built in the 19th century as a water supply and meeting point. The main thing to see on this square is the central kiosk which is a replica of the kiosk demolished in the 1970s. Also, four large Ficus macrophylla trees are worth seeing. Their trunk exceeds a perimeter of 6 meters.

Plaza Portal De Elche was a great square my twin brother Stephen and I visited as we were pub and bar hopping around the Centro District of Alicante and what a great find. A great square ,all around the square are great looking buildings ,there's some great pubs,bars and restaurants on the plaza ,we visited 26 Cocktail Bar and Santa Gloria Cafe Bar ,enjoyed iced cold beers watching the world rush by ,in the centre of Plaza Portal De Elche is a fabulous bar called Soho Parc ,one of the best bars we visited in Alicante during our holiday ,cold beers in a great bar just perfect,the park in the centre of the square is also very cool ,very impressive ancient trees here that adds to the joy of visiting this square ,all in all a great plaza to check out if you're in the area or planning on visiting Alicante.
