Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This impressive cathedral with a blue dome is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Nicholas. It was elevated to a cathedral in March 1959 by Pope John XXIII.

The Valencian Gothic-style church was completed in 1662. It was constructed over an ancient mosque.

The external appearance is quite modest. The interior is much more stunning.

My wife and I had a short stop off from a cruise ship at Alicante and made a bee line for the Cathedral. Unfortunately it was a Saturday and when we got there a service was in progress and we didn't want to interrupt. Nevertheless we had chance to look around and take in the beauty and atmosphere of a truly wonderful free to enter building.

The austere façade gives way to a much better interior in which a huge dome stands out. The architectural style is Herrerian Renaissance

San Nicholas co-cathedral

This building in the Herrerian Renaissance style is located in the city’s old quarter and is one of the most emblematic buildings in the quarter and is a Latin-cross plan church with short arms and communicating side chapels.

Once inside you can see the 15th Century cloister with two baroque Doors, the altar, the 18th Century Communion Chapel and the 45-metre high blue dome. The interior decoration is a clear example of the illusionistic style from the first half of the 18th Century.

The cathedral is open during limited times, so you will need to plan your visit (1130–1230, 1730–1830, Monday–Saturday). The building is in the middle of the old town and has a plain facade, so it is not immediately obvious that you have arrived. There is graffiti-like text carved into the building’s walls, which is interesting. Although the Cathedral is small, there are some beautiful artefacts to look at and the cloisters are very pretty. A visit will take around twenty minutes.

Went for a tour on foot around this fine city, it took me hours, though bit hot. I'd be complaining if it was cold, so not a complaint.
Whilst on walkabout, passed by this place, wanted to go in but there was a wedding on, not that this would stop me, but some men in suits at the front door said I couldn't. So missed out on this wonderful interior that everyone rants about. I will be back anyway, so I will take a look then.

Located in the old quarter of Alicante , this majestic cathedral, upon entering, gives you a feeling of awe; its enormous size, the very high ceiling, the beautiful altar and above all the serene and quiet atmosphere it commands, derives an immediate respect, even for people of other faiths. It is a place of worship and dignity. It makes you feel humble, something that its designers managed to achieve so many centuries ago. Impressive.

To our shame we didn’t enter the pro cathedral: we we easily distracted by the superb selection of restaurants and bodegas that surround the cathedral. We sat and ate good food and even better wine while people watching and not noticing the hours slip by!! A great location to spend an evening: with a mixture of locals and tourists 👍👍

We visited here whilst exploring the town and were amazed at this incredible structure. It is Close to the port and is definitely worth locating.

The architecture is absolutely beautiful and is one of the focal points for the town. There was a service on when we went in but, as long as you remain silent, I guests arevery welcome.
