This lovely little town is where we stayed during our time in the Colca Canyon. We loved every minute of it! Worth getting up early to see live music in the main plaza. We spend the rest of the time relaxing, doing some hikes and even mountain biking. Can't believe most people come here only for the day. To top it off, you can enjoy the hot springs more than once. Come here, you won't regret it.

we went early in the morning at 7.00 am and there where a bunch of kids, wearing tipical peruvian suits and dancing for tourists and asking money.

The day we arrived, there was a festival in progress with a parade and markets so it was full of dancing and music. Delightful!

the plaza is a dingy and not very attractive. apart from some interesting stone arquitecture, nothing to do.

It is worth stopping at this very nice countryside Plaza de Armas after you have seen the ones in Arequipa, Lima, Cusco and the like. Its calm atmosphere can be really enjoyed and it feels different.

Local school children perform folk dances in the morning and there are small handicraft stalls, where you can buy local handmade items. You can also get your photo taken with locals and Llamas.

The Plaza is not really that interesting. It is fronted by the side entrance to the Immaculate Conception Church, a quaint but average structure. One can get a glimpse of the snow peaks in the distance. There are vendors, musicians, dancers and folks w/ alpaca and eagles in this concrete square, all waiting for the tourists of the Colca Canyon. That's it.....

The old Plaza used to be nice but after the new major order to change the design, they reduce the green areas. It is still nice but why less green areas?

Nice, churchmouse-poor Plaza sporting friendly locals at market and other celebrations - usually involving kids with elaborate costumes and masks dancing routines abstracted from ancient pre-Incan legends. These locals are devout catholics and it is really interesting to see the persistence of "Pachamama" and other pagan flavours.
The church is OK from the outside but inside, there is the usual opulent statuary and flamboyant excess of gold and silver characteristic of the Spanish influence. We found the contrast of riches inside with the poverty outside very uncomfortable.

A very large and rather bleak Plaza de Armas. It seems nothing more than a large car park with no trees and hardly any vegetation at all. A few local ladies lay out blankets laden with woven goods for tourists, and you will probably spot a baby llama. The surrounding mountains look spectacular. The southern edge of the square is dominated by the white washed Church of the Immaculate Conception. Its front entrance has some inticate stucco work spread between its twin bell towers. It dates back to the early 1600's but has suffered from a few earthquakes.
