Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Porto is about 30-40 minutes away from the port.. Take your chances with taxis or (even worse) with buses, but maybe hedge your bets and go for a cruise-arranged tour. But, getting off the ship will still require a tourist to jump through hoops and bark like a dog. Yeah, it is like that.

So, just off the top of debarking here, there is NO WALKING allowed in the port. Right, No walking. Even to get off the silly ship, you need to take a bus to the gate. Well, thank you Gods of cruising!

As we have been to Porto many, many times in the past, we opted for a on-foot tour of the (ahem, cough, cough) "local village" of Matosinhos. Worst decision ever.

Better choice would have been to stay on the ship and maybe wash my hair? Anything would have been better than a day in Matosinhos.

If this is the best a ship can do, to float into this pathetic cruise port, then either skip this port or anchor off somewhere and tender in to civilization. Because Matosinhos is seriously lacking.

This is where the cruise ships dock, at the Ocean a bit away from the Porto city center. You will probably have to take a cab to the city center, which is what we did. Note that the river cruise ships dock elsewhere. The industrial port is here.

Of the seven ports we visited on this trip, the port of Aleixes and one year old terminal building was the most beautiful architecturally and easiest to navigate, hence most functional. In some respects you expect art exhibits to be featured here.

The local population is understandably very proud of their new cruise terminal. It has the potential to put Porto on the map with major cruise lines. Unfortunately most of the immediate surrounding area is pretty run down. They appear to be working on improvements and this is an absolute imperative. With a pleasant seaside boulevard and the wide range of existing fish restaurants they'll be on a winner.

Great stopover port. We had been warned about the pontoon damage due to strong southerlies bouncing wave the around the marina. Staff were working hard to fix the damage and new piles at the ends of the fingers should help prevent another occurrence. Very dirty water with a lot of debris was not very nice. Beautiful beach next door and all facilities close by. Wifi signal not good but showers and toilets ok.

This made for a very impressive introduction to Porto. From here, it was so easy to get to beaches and take tours of both the Old Town and the Villa Nova de Gaia sides of the Duoro River. The Atlantic Ocean stretches down this section of coastline for a bit (where the beaches are) and it is such a pretty coastline drive traveling to the Ponte de Dom Luis I Bridge. From here, we could cross over into the Villa Nova de Gaia part of Porto.

The marina offices had the most attractive display of Porto in miniature. We could get close-up looks at the dimensions of these landmarks and get familiar with them when we visited them on our excursions. Thank you, Porto!

Combine this smaller attraction review with the bigger one, Porto de Leixoes. This is only one attraction (the name is the same) but it shows two different listings.

It was a real treat to be able to visit this architecture marvel by Luis Pedro Silva. The facades are primarily made out of white hexagonal white ceramics. Don’t miss the atrium and the roof top. It was a good 45-minute metro ride from Porto downtown one way.
