Review of: Yanaka: Tokyo Old Quarter Walking Tour
With all free walking tours, it comes down to the guides to determine quality, but after two different disappointing tours with Tokyo Localized, I would recommend looking at other alternatives. The tours I did were the Shinjuku Night Tour with Hiroshi and the Free Walking Tour in Akihabara and Euno with Reiko. In both cases, I found that both guides weren’t very fluent in English and neither had a deep enough level of historical expertise to provide meaningful insight and answers to questions beyond their typical tour script. As someone who’s done dozens of Free Walking Tours around the world, I typically find that they come with great guides who are real subject matter experts, who engage with the tour group and (most importantly) who have a level of English literacy that makes it easy for native English speakers to understand and who speak loud enough for the group to hear. These tours had none of that. And, to make matters worse, Hiroshi, like many Japanese people, was very soft spoken with a group of 30 - 40 people. While most guides would have a portable headset / speaker, he did not so in many cases I simply couldn’t hear him. Beyond that, when asked questions on most tours, the guides frequently didn’t have answers or enough historical expertise to provide true insight to the group. Furthermore, on the tour with Hiroshi, he suggested that the average suggested contribution for a 2 hour walking tour was the equivalent of $50 USD. I guess Japan is more expensive than, for example, Latin America where I’ve given $10 USD for a Free Walking Tour and felt generous, but at the end of this tour, I almost wanted to give $0 for the level of quality (don’t worry, I didn’t!! But I still felt ripped off.) I’d recommend skipping this company and looking for one of the dozens of other tour options while in Tokyo.…

Thank you for your review. Sorry that our guide is not fluent than you and didn't have enough knowledge about the historical insight than you. It is a free tour, and you decide the tip. Everyone knows about the rule. Sorry to make you disappointed and waste your time, joining two tours. (I don't know why you joined two of our tours) Next time, please pay $$$$$ in advance and I will give a tour with a great headset. Have a nice day.

We sat at home in the UK and went through the virtual tour of Tokyo with Dai, 40 mins of interesting facts and history which will help us plan our visit in 2021 much easier. He is very open and honest, and can ask any questions. Thanks Dai!

was a fun 'tour' of the history of Tokyo. Would have been better with a little more video of the sites rather than just still photos

Review of: Yanaka: Tokyo Old Quarter Walking Tour
We had an amazing walking tour with Dai! We learnt so much about Japan, and Tokyo, stuff we didn't even know or realise. Dai really knows his stuff about Japan and Tokyo history so we asked him tons of questions and he knew everything! Would highly recommend this tour, even on a super hot day the walk wasn't too long and we had a nice break too 👍🏼 Thanks Dai, see you again one day!…
