Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have been on many nice free tours which I wished went on. This one was more of lowering myself to the bottom of the pit.
Although the guide was nice and energetic, this could not compensate for a whole wasted afternoon (3h30 instead of 3h announced) that I could have spent on my own visiting interesting and inspiring places.
"This tour covers all that you need when you visit Tokyo".
Oh...
My...
G**...
I expected to see more instead of listening to a history lesson. We went through places I already knew and that are overcrowded with uncultivated tourists. With the tone of his voice I quickly started to get bored within the first hour.
We went on learning how to bow, prey and wish. A brainwashing journey, but again weak people need to believe in something.
We also passed by what seemed to be the Uniqlo flagship store but no word about what Japanese culture especially represents, i.e. mass consumption and useless packaging.
I have been on many general sightseeing tours. This is not it.
There was a break... in a place where everything was overpriced. And when I finally saw something edible on the way rather than tiny non-Italian ice cream, I did not have time to stop for something decent (and local) since we were already crossing the road.
I have done a lot in my life, this was truly one of the most degrading experiences...
Do not waste your time, use a book, a map and Wikipedia on the way, rather than listening to b*llsh*t until you faint.

It was great to get into the back street areas you wouldn’t normally see and learn more about Japanese culture and life. Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us some interesting places.

Sachi has a good command of English. She took us to three important places (temple, shrine, garden) and demonstrated the customs in each area. We learned a lot and appreciated her cheerful disposition as well.

Maki was an excellent tour guide who wove interesting bits of history and contemporary context into the tour. I loved the juxtaposition of old Edo and new Tokyo - highly recommend!

I took a "Free Walking Tour Tokyo" starting from Akihabara with Hiroshi. I highly recommend. Hiroshi gave a great introduction to Japanese culture and history. He also made the tour very fun.

I highly recommend this tour. Our tour guide was Miyo (might be misspelled) and she was fantastic. She provided a lot of insight as a local and made us laugh a bit. We saw and learned so much.

We did the Harajuku tour with Kumi and it’s amazing! She is Japanese and knows a lot about the city and history. She is so nice, always smiling and making us laugh while we learn more about this incredible city. Thanks Kumi for the wonderful time :)

Our guide, Loc, gave us tidbits of history at different scenic spots, allowing time for photos, rest and questions. Topics included the history of Japan's imperial family, the start of the shogun and its downfall, tales of legendary samurai, and general information on the Edo period leading into modern times.

With such a rich history, it can be confusing to follow but Loc was excellent at answering questions and didnt rush. The walk can be a bit steep at some points, but the frequent pauses to carry on the conversation means that those with mobility issues wont strain or fatigue themselves.

Without the tour, the walk around the gardens would have lacked a lot of context and the palace was never rebuilt after a fire. The stones that remain are impressively sized, but I would have had no idea what function each area served without a guide.

As someone who gags at the crack of canned tuna, or has meals ruined because someone nearby is eating a particularly stinky fish - i would still recommend this tour.

We tried sweet omlette, ice cream, wagu croquettes, and octopus cakes/kebabs that were sweet and didnt taste like the ocean at all. Urchins and oysters (i passed them off to my partner after a nibble), roasted cod that was done in a way which tasted more like terriyaki chicken than fish, and sushi tuna done in 3 grades (the highest grade was the best and my partner got the rest). Some maki (skipped), and fugu (pufferfish - which is more a texture and takes on the taste of the sauce), plus some pretty amazing strawberries and ice cream. Definitely recommend!

My partner and I were jet-lagged and went to the area early. We explored and had a good time, but when the tour started, we realised how much we didnt notice or understand.

Our guide, Loc, explained the history of the area, including some founding tales of Tokyo. There was much to be learned about the rituals and cultural practices going on around us , and about how Buddhism and Shintoism have come to co-exist in modern Japenese life.

An excellent walk through history and culture (past and present), done over 2 hours so that you're not worn out by the end but all the more eager to branch off and explore the market stalls after.
