It used to be full of bookstores side by side here in this area. Still there are several book stores here, but much less than it was a few decades ago. Actually I hesitate to call this a bookstore area any more. I'm not saying...More

This neighborhood is the most comprehensive book market I have ever seen in my life. Alongside big publishing companies, there are many bookstores specialized on different type of genres. For instance you can find a store which has an archive of People magazine since 1950’s....More

Yes most of the books are in Japanese, but just making a cursory visit to some of the numerous bookstores specializing in various types of used books would be an interesting experience if you are a book lover. Even if you cannot read Japanese, there...More

It's nice to see second-hand book stores surviving here. They won't be around forever. My favorite places to visit in Kanda Jimbocho are the 3 or 4 woodblock print (Ukioy-e) shops.

It is incredible to visit a part of Tokyo where you see a large number of books that reflect every aspect of Japanese intellectual culture. You might find a book that you would never come across and it might even change the way you think....More

The good book stores are all on one side of this street only. Why? Because the sunshine can be very intense on the other side of the street and will damage the books. Great for people with a knowledge of antique Japanese books. But the...More

It's a nice walk in Kanda to the Jimbocho Bookstore Area, which is also a place in which you can find hiking stuff and no fewer than four shops for ukiyo-e, Japanese woodblock prints, one of which I can vouch for is Hara Shobo. The...More

This definitely one of my favourite areas of Tokyo. Then again, I love books! Even though there are mostly Japanese books on offer, you'll also find international books, art prints and some lovely cafe. UCC Cafe Comfort is a lovely place to go, it's in...More

Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting
with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day
Japanese education. The area has kept its college town

towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and
sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores
for students and anyone interested in literature and
the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and

Sorry I'm late I've been travelling. It's very much hit or miss. The bookshops don't specialise in Doll books. You need to allow a few hours to browse the store hoping to find what you've looking for.

I would say most Kanda bookstores are for Japanese books so they won't read your post. When you visit Japan, go to Kanda and ask for Store that carry English books. Assume the book you are looking for is out-of-print. If... More
