About
The only place where 7 cross roads come together and the lights all turn red at the same time. Thousands of pedestrians then all cross at the same time. Just amazing.

Top ways to experience Shibuya Crossing
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

A BIT LIKE ABBEY ROAD LONDON BUT BIGGER
It’s one of the must see and fun things to do in Tokyo. 7 streets converge as one and at peak times as many as 3000 people have crossed at one time! Great photo opportunity and many tourists take this one.

    Crossing Madness
Great experience to watch and participate in walking across with many other people. Starbucks is a good location to have a coffee and people watch, expect to cue to get in. Another option is the l'occitane shop which has a cafe that is less crowded and looks over the crossing. If you like Ramon go to the Ichiran which is just around the corner from the crossing. Just enter it into your google maps.

Nice but a little over rated
It's a busy intersection and crossing. Not unlike many other busy city dlcrossings with nice illuminated advertising boards. A nice spectacle to watch but wouldn't go out of my way to see it again. The suburb offers an interesting vibe for people watching.

    Unusual Crossing
The crossing is very busy and locals queue up in just the right spot. Some tourists seem to like to stop for selfish and find disrupt the flow a little. Nonetheless, it is an interesting place to visit, even if it is only to use a crossing , ok several crossings and several times, without the need to stop and disrupt anyone.

Meh - not really a big deal
Not really a big deal to see/do. There are a lot of ppl everywhere in Tokyo, so this was just a lot of ppl allowed to walk at once. I guess if you’re in the neighborhood it’s worth seeing but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

    Don’t miss it!
We did the night tour. We were very lucky that our tour guide was Zach. He provided a lot of information about Shibuya crossing and was very knowledgeable about Japan in general. We are not night people and it was quite cold. The tour was excellent!!! Don’t miss it!

    Great experience
In Tokyo and passed through and stopped to appreciate this famous crossing. Was smaller than id imagined and loved the moment when the lights changed and everyone moves and courses the road. We didn’t have time to view from high up but sure its even more impressive.

When in Tokyo you need to do the crossing
It was something to do that everyone does when in Tokyo. However if you are in a rush and just have a short time in Tokyo and are staying far from Shibuya, then don't bother. It is just a zebra Crossing 😜. However habit said that it was fun watching people taking selfies and filming.

    Global city tourism baby!!
I happen to be a big fan of world famous areas and I am a jokester and so I went over to the Tokyo Skytree and asked someone if it was Buckingham Palace!! I didn’t actually do that and the person would think I’m a psycho if I did!! I know this area is what people think of when they think of Tokyo!! I have been two times now and I enjoyed it!! It is a very touristy area with a lot of stores and restaurants!! I saw some Mario Kart riders and also a person with a Trump 2024 sign which I didn’t get!! This is the OG tourism place to come here so you all should come!!

If you’re in Tokyo, it’s definitely one of the things to “experience.”

The amount of people crossing at the same time was crazy. I highly recommend videoing.

You could also line up and take pictures with the Hachikō dog statue!

Afterwards, we went to the 2nd floor of the shopping mall to take overall shot and video.

We headed up to the Starbucks in the first floor of one of the buildings which overlooks the crossing and it offered an excellent view of one of the world’s busiest pedestrian crossings.

There is lots going round in the surrounding area - cafes, shopping and more - so worth a visit.

Easily accessible by train.

Don't need to feel too overwhelmed since there'd probably be more humans at any one point during the crossing than cars. If its tough for you to get a window-seat cafe at Starbucks or Loccitane Cafe, just head up to see from the metro station's upper floor. Otherwise, just enjoy the fun crossing.

Yes, it is a one of kind street crossing and a Tokyo must see, but the real fun is walking around Shibuya. Near by are very cool stores such as Loft, Tokyo Hands, and the Mega Don Quixote. But be warned the new Shibuya Crossings shopping center charges 100 yen for 60 minutes to view the intersection from above.

For a change, it's the people that sums up a city, not a landmark. Shibuya Scramble Crossing in Tokyo, is the largest pedestrian crossing in the world.
It's an amazing spectacle. It is reckoned that over 3,000 people cross from all directions during peak time. Drivers don't even honk their horns at the stragglers, it's such a laid back society.
There are plenty of tourists taking photos while crossing. You can view the activity from Starbucks Cafe and 'people watch'. You also watch from other establishments. There's also an online webcam.
I didn't realise until I got home and used a crossing here that nobody pressed a button! It is automatically timed to let vehicles pass in sequence before stopping the traffic altogether. Superb!
Scramble Crossing is often shown as a highlight for Tokyo. Be part of it!

This is the strangest tourist attraction I have visited, after all, it's only a pedestrian crossing. The difference is that everyone obeys the lights and when they all turn green to cross, hundreds during the day and thousands during the evening cross. Get a view from above and it seems like ants. In the end, it's a novelty so yes, come and experience it. Starbucks for a view is free but the department store has a cover charge if you go onto the roof.

We saw the crossing when it wasn't at it's busiest peak and it was still very busy! One of those things that is important to "check off the list" when in Tokyo. Lots of great restaurants nearby. We asked a gal who was in a "visitor center" trailer near the statue of Hachi for a recommendation of where to get Ramen and she gave us a local place that was in the building next to the Shibuya crossing building.

You need to see it to believe it. So Chaotic yet very organized. It has two busiest railway stations nearby which makes this crosswalk extremely busy during peak hours. Thousands of pedestrians await on all sides to cross and the moment when everyone scramble through without hitting each other makes ones jaw drop. The area around Shibuya crossing is full of fascinating nooks and crannies just waiting to be explored. Widely considered the beating heart of the capital, the energy here is infectious; you won’t ever be too tired to move right on to the next. It's a must when in Tokyo

Depending on your view you may find Shibuya crossing interesting or otherwise. We recommend going to Shibuya anyway, not because of the crossing but because of the shops and eateries and general other stuff. The crossing is a bonus and a good one at that and it is hard to miss if you are coming by Train as it is right next to the station.

The interesting part of the crossing is this - when the lights are green it is full of vehicles. When they go red, it is full of people - literally thousands of people!
Photos do not do it justice. Take a video while crossing - of your surrounding. When you look at it at your leisure later it will be something to behold!

Something about 3000 people crossing a complex intersection makes people want to see it, and of course, do it. Unfortunately we were there on a rainy day and the crowds were not as dense. But the sight of umbrellas moving in unison seems just as appealing. We even paid for an 8th floor view of the intersection in one of the buildings to see it from a higher vantage point. The area is a high concentration of stores, restaurants, traffic and nooks and crannies. Worth exploring all around, but not in the rain.
