Europe's oldest place of pilgrimage is a sanctuary of calm, peace and tranquility. The pilgrimage is the most challenging in the Christian World but is spiritually fulfilling. The site offers a range of retreat and pilgrimages including the world...more
The name of this island is St Patrick's Purgratory. So that's a big clue as to what to expect. I am not particularly religious. I grew up Pettigo, the last village before you get to the island. There was a tradition of school leavers doing...More
I was invited to go to Lough Derg as a pilgrim to help me with my Catholic Faith. I found instead a place where I lost my trust in being a Catholic. The 3 day pilgrimage involves fasting for 3 days, walking, praying and kneeling...More
We weren’t allowed any pictures or phones, but this was a seriously focused 3-day prayer retreat. Take the one day program if you just want a superficial glance at what goes on here, the longer prayer/fast if you want an in-depth taste as to where...More

This was my 10th pilgrimage to this very holy and special place, it is always a very challenging experience, with lack of sleep, being barefoot and fasting for three days, but it is worth every minute of the hardships experienced. There is a tremendous sense...More
We decided to visit Lough Derg as we thought is would be a perfect place to run the dogs. We drove through the entrance gates and WOW!!!!! I was speechless (which doesn't happen often), I was in total awe of the view which greeted us....More
I had heard of this place from Father Barron's. We just did a day retreat. A great experience and good for the spirit. It got us calmed down for the rest of our trip. I will go back and do the silent barefoot 3 day...More
