Needs a bit of effort so if you are not physically fit you might consider waiting for the others to come down. It's a unique experience to see the Monastery from inside and 13 century Caravansarai built by Selcuk Turks on the silk road. Don't miss it out.. actually don't miss anything in cappadocia if you want my advise.

It is ok if you don't have time to visit here when you are in cappadocia. But if u do have time, you may consider it. This place is also covered by the green tour. Be prepared to wear proper shoes as it require some climbing. Yet fun and you can take amazing photos here.

Selime monastery is a beautiful rock cut structure rising into the sky. Situated at one end of the Ihlara valley and about 28 kilometers from Aksarai, this is a beautiful structure. The monastery itself dates back to the 8th and 9th century although some of the frescoes in this place are even older. It is easily covered as a part... More

Came as part of a "Green Tour" After a brief and concises introduction on the history of the complex from our guide, we were left to climb and explore the grounds on our own for a good half an hour. Except from a few fences closing off the steepest falls, one is allowed entrance to more or less all structurally... More

Amazing place although our guide ali battir said that Star Wars wasn't filmed here but the cones that are widely spread around the area inspired them to recreate the shapes of the rock formations for the movie. You have to be physically able to hike up the mountain to see the monastery . Lots of photographic opportunities ..unsuitable for kids... More

We were unlucky to visit it during heavy rain. It was impossible to continue to the top. But it was the more unforgettable. Plan ahead.

This was not the first monastic settlement I visited but it was definitely the most impressive. Don't miss it.
