From the first enquiry Lisa made everything easy and stress free. The event itself was absolutely perfect - the food service and ambiance were everything we could have hoped for. Mayfield Lavender Farm is a 25-acre lavender farm with café and shop located in Banstead (Woodmansterne), Surrey – approximately 15 miles from Central London. - Michelle CLondon, United Kingdom10 contributionsMy favourite place to visit!I look forward to visiting the Lavender fields every year and keep an eye on their social media pages to find the best time to go. It’s so peaceful, especially for you go midweek, the staff are friendly and the cafe offer lots of lavender inspired goodies. The lavender iced tea is a personal favourite. There are great photo opportunities, places to sit and watch the world go by. I really don’t understand people complaining about the entrance fee, you are supporting a local, family run business and I believe it is excellent value for money. See you next year 💜Thank you for your lovely comments and your appreciation of the effort that is required to offer a tranquil and beautiful place to visitors to relax and appreciate. - Peter HCambridge, United Kingdom20 contributionsLovely but careful with the coffee.Lovely lavender fields and good covered viewing area; it was raining. Useful Cafe but, beware - the coffee was terrible, totally devoid of coffee flavour and for paying £3.75 I was not happy. I returned it to exchange for a cup of tea which was OK but no whole milk available. Hot chocolate OK too, I was told. The staff took my complaint politely and said that the machinery was all that was allowed (One Bean?) and the high price reflected the cost of the machinery. A spoonful of instant coffee would have knocked theirs into a cocked hat.Thank you for your comments. We have a professional bean to cup coffee coffee machine at our cafe add we serve many coffees to happy customers each week. I’m sorrry to hear that you did not like your cup of coffee but I am happy to learn that you found the tea and hot chocolate to your satisfaction. Our staff try always to be polite to every customer in every situation and while we have very rare complaints about our coffee we are happy to receive your opinion too. - H C3 contributionsBeautiful morning well spent…We spent this lovely sunny summer morning in pure lavender escapism. Learnt that there are 15 bee hives on the farm and that bees don’t sleep. I love to learn, and there was lots of little bits of information to keep me occupied dotted around. I read about the wonderful family that owns the farm and who allow us to venture in and browse. We took some great photos with the children, and there are nice photo spots in amongst the lavender. The lavender ice cream had sold out due to its popularity this morning however we purchased a wonderful home baked lavender cupcake and ice cream. I plan to bring my mum for a cream tea next time which is also available if you choose this. The shop and cafe staff were cheery and friendly as were the lovely car park guides/stewards. Shop has everything you need to satisfy any kind of lavender need you have x Will definitely visit again.Thank you very much for your lovely review. - sivey2016Greater London, United Kingdom5 contributions80TH BIRTHDAY PARTY WITH PROSECCO AT THE GLASS HOUSE RESTAURENTOn the 4th August 2024 I had the most amazing 80th Birthday party in The Glass House Restaurant at Mayfield Lavender in the Reigate Road near Epsom Surrey. There were 30 of my friends and neighbours and we had a wonderful afternoon. Jennia, Hanna and the team organised and delivered afternoon tea to the highest level. They organised the seating area as I requested. 5 round tables of 6 people. The food was super the service was wonderful. Their Mocktail is to die for. I have had people asking me whether they can buy a bottle. I would recommend this venue to anyone. Mayfield gave me a birthday to remember. No problem with parking. The only mistake I made was forgetting to take any photos (our loss) as we were enjoying ourselves so much. When organising this event they were extremely helpful.Thank you for your lovely review . It is so nice to get that feedback. I think that you have inadvertently added it to the Lavender Farm in Banstead so if you would like to reassign it to the Epsom branch we will delighted to see it there. Disappointing trip to the lavender farm. We visited at 5pm on a Saturday in the hope it would be a little quieter towards the end of the day....we were wrong, huge queues to get a car parking space, staff came up to our car window with a card machine to pay the £4 entry fee before we’d even parked which kind of made it just feel like a big money making machine, the fields were jam packed with people which ruined what we thought would be a relaxing walk through the fields. There are only 2 fields of lavender so with hundreds of people it’s hard to even find one path of lavender to walk up alone. There were huge queues for the small shop/tent and what looked like a van selling food and drinks (not the cute cafe we had hoped for). I would suggest to the farm that they introduce pre booked tickets to manage the crowds and make it a more enjoyable experience for visitors. For visitors I would recommend trying to go on a quieter weekday.

Sorry you were disappointed to find so many other people visiting the farm at the same time as you visited. This year has seen a lot of people visit the farm as a result of the lockdown and travel restrictions for alternative venues. We have posted that the farm is very very busy at the weekend and should be avoided so you are echoing our posts and perhaps it will have some effect. We ask people to pay on arrival as is customary at most outdoor events. Our Farm is small and our shop and cafe are small. Queues are socially distanced so they are naturally long when it is busy. We will consider pre booking for next year if we are allowed to change the entrance, surfacing and infrastructure as this was impossible up to now due to planning restrictions in the green belt.

We visited on a hot sunny Tuesday at the start of the school summer holiday. It was absolutely beautiful with rows of lavender stretching ahead, looking and smelling like Provence. Unfortunately, it was very busy and the friendly young staff seemed unprepared. When we arrived late morning a young member of staff was holding a hastily made cardboard sign saying 'Car Park Full' but no information about an alternative. When you have had a long drive and don't know the area this is not a great welcome. As the entrance is right on a busy roundabout, you can't stop and ask for advice. There was no information about lavender even though there are two wooden shelters which would be ideal places for display panels: History, Cultivation, Production, Use. I left knowing no more about lavender than when I arrived so that was very disappointing. There is also a lovely wildflower meadow again with no information about: Plants, Cultivation, Benefits, Polinators - another disappointingly wasted opportunity. The food is good and has a lavender theme, e.g.,lemonade, ice cream, scones, cupcakes. The gift shop is very well stocked with a wide range of lovely lavender products. The queues for both the cafe and the shop were very long and slow, the combination of social distancing and high vistor numbers. With just more attention to improved information and the educational potential, this venue would be worthy of 5 stars.

Thank you for your nice review.
Our farm has proved to be very popular following the lockdown and we will take your information on board. Unfortunately there is no viable alternative car park that does not involve a dangerous walk along a road with no pavement so we can’t offer a safe alternative when we are full. We used to have information panels but they were unfortunately vandalised. Best wishes 🙏

Beautiful lavender field, very well-organised for social distancing despite big crowds. There were long queues for the cafe and shop, the guy in charge of maintaining the social distancing was doing a great job and made everyone laugh. Better to have lunch in Coulsdon town centre and support the local restaurants as well. We went by train from London bridge to Coulsdon South and took a cab from there as buses were always too busy to take more than two people on.

It was our first visit to the Lavender Fields, I was with my 86 year old mother (in a wheelchair) and my husband. Entry fee is £4.50 which included free parking.
After taking a few photo’s we headed into the enclosed area where we did managed to get a table as it was quite busy, but it is the school holidays so we did expect that.
There was a long queue for the cafe van which again was ok as it gave us time to choose what we wanted to eat. The price of the food was a bit expensive but again expect it. I did notice that the staff where rather disorganised three tills serving but all hot food and drinks arriving at just one till so again this caused another queue.
There was a lot of elderly people with walking aids ordering food and drink but no help was offered to them so a lot where struggling with food and their walking aids to tables.
May be you could employ a student to help out the elderly and disabled to a table with their orders.
Our food was ok a little thrown together but hot and we did get offered a tray which I notice the server did sanitised.
The fields are a lovely sight and my mother did want to ride the little train to get a better look as being in a wheelchair she could only see the edge as there is no room to wheel her further in which is understandable, but to charge another £2.50 per person is a rip off when you’ve already paid £4.50 entry fee and £36.00 for food.
We never visited the shop as where it is situated I couldn’t get my mother down the slight slope in her wheelchair so I can’t comment on it.
Over all our few hours was OK would I return NO, would a recommend the Lavender Fields yes but take plenty of money.

Visited the Lavender Fields today. As we entered we noticed that the entrance fee had increased to £4 a head which I thought was a little steep but guess with the added levels of hygiene understandable. It was absolutely heaving & we parked further away from the entrance than we had ever in the past. Enjoyed our walk through the fields amongst the beautiful lavender & eventually made our way to the refreshments. Bought our scones & tea & found a table which had been vacated by previous family - no member of staff was cleaning the tables which I found complacent. That said whilst queuing a member of staff asked for a contact phone number for track & trace - really a useless exercise as nobody was asking those queuing for the shop!! Tea was good albeit served with no tray or cardboard sleeve so extremely difficult to get back to table Scones dry & would not buy again! All in all an ok afternoon but in the present situation think there should be a limit on entries. Tables should be cleaned between customers. Did not use toilets but they should also be cleaned regularly. Maybe not the best place to visit in a pandemic situation!!!!

Hi Sally
Thanks for your review
Just a few points to respond to .
We limit the number of cars that can enter and have now limited it further to reduce the number of visitors allowed to enter in total at any one time.
We have a member of staff dedicated to cleaning the tables and one dedicated to cleaning the loos.
The track and trace is a legal requirement and is an acton that we have been directed to do by the council for the cafe and not for the shop but that is part of the overall totally wooly guidance from the government on the whole issue of responses to the pandemic. We are obliged to ask for and record the names and telephone numbers but the public are not obliged to provide it.
We do not provide trays as they are a source of potential contamination (guidance from the council).
We are operating in a difficult environment. People wish to visit a public place but they say the numbers should to be limited. They wish to remain safe but do not wish their freedom to be curtailed. They wish to be advised of their obligations for social distancing but do not like it when it is imposed. There are many contradictions highlighted by the pandemic but the fact remains that we will only safe if we all work together and try to support each other.

On the website it states that there are 25 acres, but it felt a lot smaller so we were only there for 15 minutes (but you can stay for as long as you want) .
I tried the lavender ice cream but the bits of lavender were left in so it isn’t something I’d try again, they had lots of drinks and bits to eat but a lot of it was lavender flavoured.
There is free parking when you pay £4 each adult to get in so that’s a positive.
No tractor / tractor rides, which was advertised on the website, which was sad because I was looking forward to it :(
There are social distancing measures in place but the ques are very long.
I’d recommend this to families with young kids the most.
To the owner: lots of people were having picnics, which I’m sure you’re aware of but it would be good to see staff walking around keeping an eye on it.

Hi Lucia
Thanks for your comments and sorry that you had along drive before you arrived at our farm. We have unfortunately been forced to drop the tractor rides due to Covid 19 and have now updated the website (thanks for reminding us). We do ask people to remove picnics as we find them and we have staff patrolling the perimeter although today we did have a couple of staff shortages due to unexpected illness and we have to withdraw staff to cover. Thank you

Such a lovely place to walk about. The colours are stunning and the aroma of lavender impregnates the air. The buzzing of bees is such a lovely sound too. We loved it, and £4.00 per adult is quite reasonable. Didn't like the toilets, but obviously there are building restrictions, so they are better than nothing. Would have liked to visit the shop, but the queue was huge due to distancing and restrictions. I cannot say I like the lavender ice cream, but the lemon and lavender muffin was nice. Altogether a beautiful experience. I want to visit when the paths in between the lavender plants are green as in the lovely poster I saw. I also think the lavender memorial is a beautiful idea.

nice as ever
beautiful calm place
good seating
don't have the lavender ice cream tub- regretted it, its just lavender chucked in with vanilla ice cream. Fresh ice cream can be bought from main cafe- not the caravan looking cafe.
souvenir place still a bit pricey however,
great place for those professional photos

It's just a field full of, er, lavender. Is there something about this place that I'm not getting? Why not a day out on a cabbage farm, or a turnip field?
You can get the 'standing in a field of purple stuff' experience for free by using the public footpath that goes across the site, so £4 per adult entry seems a bit steep. And despite what the cheeky signs posted up by the farm may suggest, you can loiter and take as many photos as you like, provided you don't stray from the path into the fields of lavender themselves.
Could accept the entry charge if they knocked it off their rather steep prices for food and drink or other stuff, but they don't. I ended up paying nearly £30 for three people to sit down an have a few nibbles, about 20 minutes entertainment in all.
You can have a much cheaper and, in my opinion, nicer afternoon out in the public Oaks Park across the main road.

Thank for your views Chris. I have addressed comments about the price on other posts so I won't go into to lots of detail but basically we have approximately 50 staff working on the farm on a busy weekend, insurance, lease, machinery, fuel, services, rates, maintenance, replanting, harvesting, distillation, etc It is almost impossible to see the range of costs as a visitor but its also important to remember that Oaks Park maintenance and upkeep is paid for by the council who raise money through taxation. We are happy to make a contribution to that cost as a participating business in the community.

Farm itself lovely, however the staff in the cafe refused to take our paper 20 note after we spent 10 minutes in the queue with 2 small children in the heat. No proper explanation was given - the manager said she cannot bring it to the bank anymore - which is not true. Later she said it is in their policy. No signs or posters were presented saying 20 paper bills are not acceptable anymore… highly unprofesional.

Thank you for your comments and apologies that you were unable to use your £20 notes. We had a number of problems with forgeries of the old £20 note being passed to our young team so we took the decision to only accept the new £20 notes. We have found that the vast majority of visitors now wish to pay by card and using the new bills so I’m sorry that you could not use your old £20 note.
Our cafe staff are polite and friendly and we will ensure that they are able to explain why we prefer not to accept the old £20 notes so that they can convey this to visitors who wish to use the old currency.

Hi,
A friend and I have been planning to visit the lavender fields on 4 September (it’s the earliest date both of us can make it), but I’ve just seen on the website that they close end of August? Is this really the case does anyone know?
After 5 months shielding I’ve really been looking forward to visiting here and getting out of London for the day.
If anyone knows that would be great!
Thanks

Hi
Our lavender farm is basically a field with lines of lavender growing and a grass or gravel perimeter. The shop and cafe has a pea shingle base and while it is relatively flat the field in general should be considered as an outdoor venue with an uneven surface. If the buggy is large it will not fit between the rows of lavender but if it is small it should be fine. We just ask that you take care when walking with your buggy in the plants as it may damage the plants. I hope that helps. Best wishes

I can't say that I noticed any when was there (but I wasn't looking for it either, to be honest). Their selection of food is limited so it might be safer to bring a packed lunch (unless anyone else has noticed anything different).

Written 23 July 2019
Don’t forget the entry fee of £2.50 first! Then For £10 you could get a toastie a lavender cup cake and a cup of tea or lavender punch hopefully. I think £15 would be safer to take. Hope that helps and have a nice time
