What a wonderful place for trekking! Well marked paths, interesting nature and impressive views. We walked yellow path to Hrad Valdjstein which goes on upper level with marvelous lookout points, and took blue path back which leads you down to rock city. The blue one...More
We took the red trail, a 6km hike one way from Turnov to Hrubá Skala. It is very uphill for the first kilometer, but once you reach the top, it is a beautiful and flattish walk with excellent views of the Bohemian countryside, and, once...More
We were trying to avoid the crowds in Prague and rented a car for the day drive one hour to this trail. Easy walk . Saw a bunch of locals families on the way and some rock climbers. Some pine forest. And a rock castle...More
We took the full trail from Hruba Skala to valdstein castle and back. The area around Hruba Skala is beautiful and impressive -huge rocks all around and interesting trails going through the rocks in the woods. The full trail is not that interesting however, only...More
I love exploring those places that are not necessarily flocked by groups of tourists ... the little secrets that every country offers. Hruba Skala, or the Big Rock castle is certainly one of them. Beautiful landscapes with plenty of tourist paths, the very castle and...More

We went to several rock formations in the area and this is the most famous one. But in our opinion not the most beautiful of all. It is still amazing offcourse. And it has a few little stands with drinks, ice cream and little souvenirs.

I only found a very crude regional map that was not very helpful. Cesky Raj is really a series of separate sights quite spread out. For example, there is a good trail from Turnov that follows the ridge towards Hruba Skala and all the best sights are visible from this ridge track. You can continue on towards Trosky castle, and trails from here lead to places you can catch the little train back to Turnov. Note that Hruba Skala is not really a city - it is just a rock formation.
