Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Sandsend is well worth a visit. Be wary of parking in the East Row Car Park at Sandsend run on behalf of the owners of the Mulgrave Estate, the Marquis and Marchioness of Normanby. They employ CPSUK to operate it and apparently have no qualms about this company sending letters within days demanding the exorbitant amount of £100 for an overstay. Generously offering to reduce this to £60 for prompt payment!

Lovely place, beautiful beech and great fish and chips......
East Row car park is a place run by Complete Parking Services Limited, who have zero tolerance for minor infringements and non-compliance.
Be warned I was fined £100 for a 1 minute and 55 seconds discretion. Agreed it was outside the T&C's clearly signposted, but CPSUK (Ltd) have zero compassion, humility or common sense.
The Parking Charge Notice issued is very threatening, the appeals process is flawed, the time-frames set to pay and/or appeal are completely misaligned and the phone system simply puts you in an infinite do loop. Hey ho what lovely people.
I hope those who profiteer from this kind of racket are brought to justice one day.

A delightful long sandy beach that stretches for a mile or more down towards Whitby and is really extensive when the tide’s out. There’s a particularly good and popular area near the main slipway access onto the beach, by the Sandsend Seafood cafe, where the shallow river runs down to the sea and provides excellent paddling opportunities. Good new car parking five minutes back from the beach, alongside the river, and public toilets just south of the cafe, plus more parking spaces beside the road (pay at meters) for those who want more space, less crowds and don’t mind being further from the facilities. It’s a lovely beach and probably the most toddler-friendly on this section of coast- hence its popularity. Get there early:-) !

Drove to Sandsend beach from Whitby as parking is bad in Whitby. Parking charge of £5.00 on the road was extortionate. The beach was rocky and pebbly and very poor in comparison to Whitby beach. The public toilets on the front were disgusting. We wanted a coffee and a snack at the cafe on the front but were told we had to go inside to order any food even though they were selling coffee from the kiosk.

Sandsend is where the sand ends and the cliffs begin. A small stream flows into the sea here and children delight in paddling, making dams or hopping a dozen yards to the start fo the long sweep of beach that runs south to Whitby. Lifeguards are regularly on patrol here for all the bathers and surfers. There is some beach a the sand's end at high tide but the main stretch to Whitby is lost to the high tide. It is popular and the parking areas (there is a reasonable charge) fill early and it is not easy to find a space in the day. A local busy service runs frequently to Whitby (or to Saltburn) so you can combine beach and town easily and cheaply.

My first visit to Sandsend it is a lovely wee place we had a nice walk along the beach weather was dry beach was clean with no litter about dogs are only allowed on one part of the beach. We were going to walk up to the woods but the path was too muddy as there had been a lot of rain recently. Hopefully we will be able to do that another time

Took a beach walk to Sandsend from Whitby, walking on the beach as the tide came in. We visited the duck pond, took in the gorgeous views, had a snack at the cafe and did some shopping.
The return took us along the top.
Enjoyed it so much we did the walk later in the week when the tide was out so we could do it along the beach. Takes around 75 minutes.
Lots of activities, swimming , paddle boarding, surfers, lovely seaside walk and there was an artist exhibition at the hall near the pond

We were staying nearby and decided to pop down and have a look. There is parking on the main road which i think you have to pay for or there is some free parking just off the main road. The beach is big and there is a bit of a band of pebbles not far from the steps down. There are a lot of dog walkers on the beach. We didn't have time to walk up to the small village though.
Overall this is a nice beach, good for having a long walk when the tide is out. Car parking can be an issue

We paid £6.10 (via app on phone) for 24 hours parking in main carpark overlooking the sea. There are free toilets here. We then walked along the beach, continuing onto Whitby. The beach was large and looked clean, with good sand. There were many many benches to sit at on the little promenade running alongside the beach, to sit and watch the ocean.

This beach stretches on for miles and is easy to access. There's reasonable parking during the summer months and free out of season along the road adjacent to the beach. Toilets are free and across the road - always handy! To one side where the cafe's the East Row Beck follows into the sea creating a small stream for the kids to play in. Ducks are often there and you can feed them. If you follow the beach further round to the car park, which is often used for fishing, you can join the Cleveland Way walk.

From Sandsend I would recommend walking on the pavement to the golf club. You can then walk down the lane to the promenade and walk along that for the rest of the way to Whitby.

we are going to sandsend in july for a week and wondering how the parking is and if no space on roadside are there 24 hour car parks and how much are they

Hi,
There is one large car park by the sea . It’s £6 per 24 hrs. It has about 100 spaces and gets very busy. It operates on coins or cards . It’s free , as are all car parks until 1/3! Don’t know where you are staying but our cottage gave us a residents car parking badge 😀. I also think you can buy multible car parking at post office , useful if you are parking at Robin Hood ; Whitby; Runswick etc . The Hart Inn is a very good pub with car parking, gets busy and nice bistro over the road with parking. Hope this helps
