Better vibe than Tamarindo, less touristy and much better surf. Road is no as bad as some say, just need to pick the right line (follow the Tourist Buses, they know the smooth stuff.) Take a walk, forget about your problems and get at Lola's.

We did not know about the area at all before leaving Canada ... Once in Tamarindo our friend told us about Playa Avellana and the nice surfing to be done there .... You want to book some surfing lessons with Mauricio Ortega and his team ... What a bunch of nice people and good surfers as well .... And Lola's... More

Great place to surf. At the southern side there is a easygoing beach break. The spot at the river mouth works good at mid-low tide and the best spot is Little Hawaii at the north side. We found it works best a low to mid tide.

My husband and I came to this beach to surf. We are both beginners and it was a wonderful beach for this! The waves were consistent and not over powering. There is multiple places to rents board near here and also usually people around willing to give lessons. It was not too crowded when we went and has a large... More

I booked this vacation for the sole purpose of learning how to surf. Love the beach, the waves, Lola's and especially Dave and Erica at Casa Surf. Not much in the way of development, still a quiet paradise!

The drive here was bumpy and interesting since we didn't have GPS. That said, we got there just fine and it was well worth it! Man, what a gorgeous beach! Someone offered to "watch our car" for a fee. We declined and just parked close to the water. We had no problems. The beach bar was really cool, though we... More

This beach when you arrive on low tide go to the left of the parking lot and you will find a swimming pool with low calm water to snorkel in.. Instead to the right of the beach you can find some fantastic waves for surfing or boogy In front of the restaurant its too rocky for me...

A surfers paradise ! Town really geared for surfers as there are many places where one can hire a board and get lessons. Many fast food outlets at reasonable prices. terrible traffic congestion, the city fathers do not want to spend money on the roads so very muddy in the rainy season. There has been a shortage of water for... More
