Beautiful beach! Just the right amount of people to not feel completely isolated but also enjoy people watching. Plenty of trees to provide shade (get there early!). Surfing lessons available and a great restaurant near. Stayed the whole and never got bored.

This is my favourite beach in the area. We were staying at Playa Negra and visited the nearby Playa Avellana a few times because of the beautiful beach. It has nice sand, not too busy, surf lessons are available, and Lola’s (restaurant) is also there. Much better beach than Tamarindo in my opinion, which is full of shells that hurt... More

Worth the cab fare. The surf is spectacular. The beach is beautiful. The locals are friendly. Why wouldn't you check it out?!

Avellana playa is definitely a very beautiful beach that you should try if you are looking for a nice spot to surf or to have a drink at Lola's the beach restaurant. The dark side is that it is full of the tourist coming from the resort around. I would recommend to go south, beaches are very beautiful as well... More

We had a day trip for surfing and then lunch @ Lola's Worth the visit. The beach if perfect for young family's and there is lots of shade. Plan to eat at Lola's for delicious local food with great service.

Playa Avellanas is simply beautiful! White beach, waves no matter what direction the wind is coming from and a very laid back atmosphere with a nice crowd around. It can get quite crowded during the weekend but the beach stretches far enough in order not to feel too small

I am not a huge beach goer but I definitely would return to this beach. The beach was full of people, yet not crowded in the least.

We felt like we owned the beach. We were surprised at the lack of tourists there. We saw lots of surfers early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Great sand for building sand castles. Lola's for lunch was incredible. Two sisters also offer massages on the beach at a great price. There is a gentleman who will set... More

We travelled from tamarindo and had a car. It took us about 45 mins down a very windy and bumpy road. We just kept following the road and eventually there were signs that pointed us in the right direction. It was an adventure but so worth the trip. Lola's is very nicely set up and has bathrooms. The waves are... More
