Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We asked at our hotel which walks were not too difficult, and were told about the trail to the adjoining hotel, which linked to the road and trail to the falls. We had opted out of the 5.30am guided walk to spot a Quetzal as we had had enough of early starts. We decided to just dawdle along and take everything in on our own. Saw loads of humming birds and tanagers. On our way back saw 2 more tanagers, when a flash of green crossed our view. It had a long green tail of a male Quetzal, and we watched where it landed. We searched the tree, and spotted the female and got great photos. Other walkers were moving too fast, or were too impatient and missed them. Secret? Don't rush, take your time and stop to look and listen.

Some tips
1. the sign is very small - the entrance is the road with the gate at the lowest point of the road - we drove past it and had to turn back. If you see Suria lodge, you are already past the entrance
2. don't start too late and always bring a jacket, flashlight, water and food. We started too late and got lost on our way back and it was already dark. Luckily, we were able to find our way out eventually. If you're there at night fall, look up to the night sky. The stars are very bright because it is pitch dark in the area
We only got to the first waterfall, the one at the bridge. It's more like a 1 hour hike in and 1 hour out, so allow for at least 2 hours before sunset.
It's a great hike, not too difficult.

I would have given this a 5 if the trail leading to the 2nd waterfall was safe; it is not! Do not go with children past the first waterfall because you will not make it. The steps are falling apart, the bridges are rusty, the ropes came undone. There is a reason why no one goes to the second waterfall, be careful.

We decided to walk to view them one day from Savegre Lodge , all I can say here is DONT , the final half mile ( took one and a half hours ) to get to the falls is extremely dangerous , bridges ( including suspension ) are broken with missing hand rails , holes where you are supposed to walk over grills above water , lack / missing ropes , a lot of the route is overgrown & very slippery , it is lethal & visitors should be warned against visiting ( especially is you are supervising children too ) the authorities need to close route & repair asap . Such a shame as the falls are lovely , the first mile of the route is along the river with masses of beautiful bird life .

Our tour operator had this down as an easy hike and our young agile guide agreed. A good level path they said. But it’s all relative. We’re both in our 70s and I have had two new knee replacements in the last 18 months. You’ll be fine they said! I was ... just, but only because I’d remembered to take a hike stick, Best Beloved was on hand to help me down the steepest ‘steps’, and we were with a group of birdwatchers who stopped frequently so we had time to catch up and recover a bit. Not only were there the dodgy bridges which others have mentioned there was also quite a bit of up and down scrambling over roots. We didn’t get to see the waterfall from the best angle as that bit meant crawling under rocks and that was too much. But, despite all that it is a beautiful ‘walk’ and we saw wonderful butterflies and birds along the way and I really pleased to have done it.
I felt quite triumphant at what I and my new knees managed to achieve as we live in a part of England near sea level where the hills are more undulations than hills.

Most of the hike is easy and very relaxing along the river. However, once you get close to the waterfall the trail becomes very difficult. Crossing unsafe bridge, having to scale boulders & use ropes to access the viewing area was not easy for anyone over 60. If you are healthy, agile and adventurous then yes, easy hike.

If you come to this area the 2 hr hike to and back to the waterfall is worth doing. The waterfall is not very impressive but the hike itself is various. You cross different types of forest, need to scramble some rocks using ropes, pass some metal stairs that are in bad conditions and a small hanging bridge. The start of the hike starts at the end of the valey immediately after a botanical garden.

Lovely, fairly easy walk to a small waterfall. Beautiful way to spend a sunny morning — but not in the afternoon rain!

I’m sure they are as a public footpath but can’t remember the signs along the path , part of it is a national park , to get to the end & the final waterfall is a ‘dodgy’ track , enjoy but take good care

Hola! Que tan difícil es la caminata para llegar a las cataratas??? Cuando se dura a un ritmo normal???
Written 18 May 2019
