Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing museum, real diamond! Immaculately organized, with exhibits whose beauty leaves you with your mouth open, it unfolds in an impressive way the history of the late capital of the Macedonian Kingdom. Your mosaics are breathtaking! Very touching the findings of Archontico. Congratulations to those responsible for delivering such a diamond!

We visited this museum and it is fabulous! We really enjoyed our visit and to be able to see all the amazing artefacts that have survived in history. We then visited the archaeological site which was really interesting. Highly recommend Pella if you love this period of history as w3 do.

A modern museum over three floors. Displaying many the finds at the nearby Pella site and surrounding areas. The mozaics are stand out - wonderfully executed and very different from Roman and Byzantine mozaics with small pebbles of natural stone being used. The grave goods on the second floor or mind blowing in their level of preservation and artistry. This is a great day trip from Thessaloniki.

A museum that all lovers of ancient Greek history must visit.
The building is fantastic and well maintained, located near the excavations and contains many exhibits of the palace where the kings of ancient Macedonia lived. There are also many subjects from the daily life of the city and impressive mosaics.

This was a very nice museum in an otherwise rundown ruins site. Be sure to go in and see the displays of the best artifacts from Pella. Go to the top floor for the best views of the floor mosaics.

the museum is very nice. Note: its important to visit the open archeological site (open site) just few blocks away before visiting the Archaeological Museum. the same ticket is good for both places. but you need a car to go from the open museum to the archeological museum.

I should probably confess that I am fascinated, no, obsessed, with Alexander . . . so a visit to Pella was like walking on holy ground. The museum and adjacent archeological site show how exquisite the Macedonian culture was at that time. The famous "stag hunt" and "lion hunt" mosaics are astonishing, especially because they are assembled, using natural pebbles, not ceramic pieces. Some of the terracotta figurines are so elegant that they are moving to observe (have a look at "Aphrodite removing her sandal" !!). The long corridor with burial ornaments, male armory on one side and female jewelry & masks on the other is simply mind-blowing. There is also a Macedonian tomb and a reconstructed dining room wall from the "house of the plasterworks" - all visual and historical fireworks.
Outside, you can walk through the old city streets and see the outline of the many houses and shops ; some of the original mosaics are still in situ.
An unforgettable visit.

Extraordinary museum with artifacts from the history of Macedonians as tribe and as state. From 6500 BC until the descendants of Alexander the Great.

Explore the birthplace of Philip II of Macedon and Alexander the Great in this very well organised and spacious museum in the heart of Greece. Lots of free parking available. Tickets are 8€ and are for both the museum and archeological site. The ancient city ruins are quite large and it can get hot walking around the grounds, but it is well worth a look. A great way to spend a pleasant afternoon!

We caught the intercity bus from Thessaloniki to Pella. Our friendly bus driver told us where to get down from the bus and pointed towards the bus stop for our return journey to "Salonica" (Thessaloniki). Just as well he did as we would not have had any idea of where to get off. There are no automated announcements on the bus and the bus stop was at a cross roads in the middle of countryside with no signage or information on it much like all the other bus stops in the countryside. He helpfully pointed us in the direction of the museum which is just over 1km walk along the road, then follow the signs through the town. The museum is beautifully air conditioned and surprisingly there were only two other people there. We had arrived quite early in the morning as we had been stranded in Vergina waiting for the bus to get back during siesta the previous day and did not want to make the same mistake twice.
You will see beautiful mosaics from the houses of Dionysus and Helen, golden wreaths and death masks, marble statues from 4th century BC. The price of the entry ticket to the Pella museum also includes the archaeological site, 8 Euro which is not within the immediate vicinity of the museum. We asked directions from the museum staff and from a local along the way. The archaeological site was worth the 1km walk to it. It housed beautifully preserved mosaics and ruins against the stunning backdrop of the countryside. There is little shade from the sun here apart from that sheltering the mosaics the so do come prepared.
On our way back, we bought hot dogs from the only place that seemed to do food outside. The vendour was friendly and spoke enough English to understand our order. At only 2 Euros it was enough to keep us satisfied and came with chips, red onion and tomatoes!
We found the bus stop shelter our previous bus driver indicated to us and were able to the return bus back to Thessaloniki. We were able to purchase our return ticket on the bus from the driver.

Where is the best town to stay to visit Pella? We are staying in Thessaloniki on arriving then have 3 nights available to visit this area before driving south. We have already previously stayed in Vergina. Edessa seems quite a long drive from Pella.

Hi! Photography is allowed in museum?
Written 15 August 2016
Good morning from Athens. Answering to your question :
Photography is strictly prohibited in museums, metro lines. Out the museum you can take photos. You can also take pictures of ruins which are near the museum, for example ruins near the museum of Ancient Olympia, or ruins near Acropolis.
