Miniature railways (every Sunday - weather dependent), a maze, a massive play area including a sand pit. A duck pond. And the new pathways make it even better for prams :)Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 January 2024
- OldBearWigan, United Kingdom11,469 contributionsHistoric Park & GardensWe enjoyed nearly two hours at the park walking the dog and having a coffee. The grounds are well maintained but recent rainfall has made it very muddy in parts. There are a number of picnic tables located in the park and benches. The formal gardens near the cafe are worth visiting to see the Cedar of Lebanon tree planted in 1887 for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. The borders are full of plants and provide a nice backdrop for the lawns. The ‘new’ Worden Hall (Derby Wing, community room & Folly Cafe) have been a great addition to the Park Car Parking is free for up to 2 hours BUT you need to obtain a ticket from the machine and display it on your windscreen. The walled garden was underwhelming, looking in need of a large amount of maintenance, they had plants for sale some of which were past their best! It has recently been subject of vandalism, but that apart there is a lot of work to be done to bring up to a high standard! There is plenty to see and do for all ages, probably more at the weekend when the miniature railway may be operating, but it will be much busier.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 June 2024
- Rebecca Edwards8 contributionsA lovely day outA great day out with lots to do and explore. A vast area so be prepared for some walking and tired little legs. The play area has lots for kids of all ages and lots of field space to play games and run around. The Hall has recently been renovated and that alongside the formal gardens are lovely. A forest area can also be explored with some lovely features. There’s also a maze, mini-golf, food kiosk and an ice cream van Good toilet facilities but make sure you take 20p’s to use them (no issue paying as need up-keeping and an asset to the park). Large tesco is about 19 minutes away but easy to nip to for ice lollies and lunch.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 July 2024

Avoid the car park at all costs. Parked for 75 minutes, well within the 90 minute time limit. Returned to fixed penalty notice stating hadn’t parked within a bay correctly. Absolute rubbish and will be challenged.
90 minutes for car parking (yes it is free) but doesn’t provide much time to actually enjoy the park, (would rather pay a fee and stay a couple of hours. Only time for a quick wander along the woodland walk and back with the dogs which took 60 minutes and then needed to allow time for getting to and from car.
Signposting on local roads is very poor to find the park, sat nav directs to housing estate adjoining the park.
Lots of council vehicles moving around inside the park makes unsafe for Children and dogs to roam. Main paths were filthy with mud. Clearly council resources being spent on parking attendants to generate income and not groundsmen to keep site clean.
Great idea to have a dog wash but it doesn’t even work.
Sorry South Ribble Council I’ll be avoiding at all costs

We went by car for a half day / full day out with the kids only to find that we could only park for 90 minutes. A council worker warned us not to be late or we will get a parking fine. We couldn’t even move the car to another bay. We were prepared to spend money on lunches and Ices etc etc. But thought 90 minutes nowhere near long enough
We decided to leave and went to a different place outside the Leyland area. The parking system is not family friendly and inadequate
Come on council. Get a grip

Great park that you can spend several hours at. Maze, great cafe, miniature railway (check if operating). However, who thought the new parking scheme was a good idea?! Good point: parking is free. Bad point: you need a (free) ticket, but Monday to Friday, you can only park for two hours, no return for three hours. What is the thinking behind this? We had to cut short our visit. Advice: go at the weekend only!

Very large well-maintained park ideal for picnics, families, dog walking, excercise etc.
Howeve, note to management such a large expanse if paths and lawns requires good signage and this park is sadly lacking.Fortunately we asked locals and found where we needed to go but its no joke trogging round acres of fields with kids with no idea where you need to go.

Worden Park is a large park that has good parking (although a large portion of the parking area was cordoned off on this visit) and is dog friendly. Easily accessed from the Town Centre, there are some catering facilities for light snacking and ice creams etc. Certainly would need a mass influx of visitors for it to become crowded as the area is large by any standards! Grounds appear to be well kept as litter was nowhere to be seen.

Visited for the first time today. Really nice for walks and quiet contemplation.
Major drawback was the 90 minutes maximum parking time with no opportunity to pay and extend. Ludicrous for such a great place

Living very close to worded park it’s always a pleasure to visit here. The place always looks clean and tidy. Ample parking and lots of things for people to do. I usually visit on a Sunday and enjoy a trip on the 2 model railways which for me makes the whole trip worth while as it all to do with volunteers. To all the staff and volunteers at worden park I send my very wishes to you all.

There is now a limit of 90 minutes on parking which does limit your time in the park. Park grasslands and verges are very muddy at the moment but still a nice place to walk your dog. Formal gardens is my favourite part of the park

We were trying to think of somewhere different to take our two young grandsons one day recently and found Worden Park on this site. It was still quite muddy with the recent rain but the sun was shining. The boys loved the big play area although there were some sections not yet finished. We will be going back another time to find the maze and the railway and also the ducks (it was too muddy to walk to the pond). Hopefully the grass will be drier next time. Definitely worth the car trip.

Hello, We are a group arriving in a 53 seater coach on Friday, 3rd May at approx 12.00 midday. Can you please confirm that we access the Worden park car park on the eastern side from Worden Lane? Is the main entrance to car park opposite Ennerdale Close, Vicarsfield Road, or Langdale Road? Please give any further information we may need to know for parking a coach at Worden Park this Friday. Thanking you. Fred Hollier (Walking Group)

Hi. Yes, the main car park is directly opposite Vicarsfield Road. There is a big tarmac car park and grass overflow which is a bit pitted in places. No dedicated coach parking and if the car park is busy it would be challenging (but not impossible given the talents of coach drivers) to turn a coach round on it. It is used by students of Runshaw College so not always quiet on weekdays. The coach could easily drop off on Worden Lane if it’s busy and there’s a huge Tesco car park a few hundred yards away. Lovely place to visit - spend a while there if the weather is nice. Enjoy the walk. You could always call South Ribble Council to see if they would cone off space for you.
