Often so busy people are parked in the road or maybe some people park there because you have to pay in the car park. It was very busy week before christmas so hard to keep your space. Although walks are marked out I always find it hard to find way round and it was very muddy so many areas too slippy and messy to walk. They nicer places with free parking in the area

A beautiful forest that we enjoy visiting in every season! Coming into Autumn the leaves are just starting to change colour, so we will be back again in a couple of weeks to enjoy the colourful foliage. There are numerous walking trails and cycle tracks, including many downhill speed-runs further out into the woods. There is a large play area for kids, plus a smaller area for younger children and a trim trail for adults. There are a couple of ponds with boardwalks and a small nature reserve. We enjoy that there are many many Pokestops and gyms along the main path. There are several picnic areas and many benches throughout the forest. We particular like the lovely wooden sculptures - and seem to find a new one every time we visit! There must be 20+?! The paths are VERY good. We visited after a week of rain and although (obviously) wet and muddy, the paths were never slippy due the small stones mixed in with the dirt. This made for very enjoyable walking, despite the rain. We parked near the Visitor's Centre today and were surprised that the cafe looked like it was opening up, just before 9am this morning. £2 parking for upto 2 hours, £4 parking for all day.

Although the car park can get full there is a steady turn over and later arrivals seemed ot find a place to park before heading off to the play areas, the mountain bike or walking trails. There are various walks from 45 minutes to 2.5 miles mainly in the woods on the slopes of the hills but using the old trackbed of the Guisborough branch as the starting point. There is a visitor centre and cafe here but toilets were closed because of the Covid outbreak. A pity as many other tourist spots have been able to re-open public toilets. A popular spot but it quickly becomes quiet when you are past the play and areas. These areas looked very imaginative and included nature trail elements as well. Entry is free but the car park has charges.
