Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you want to visit Gravina before the hordes of tourists discover this place, then now is the time go. We had the entire town to ourselves. Having said that, Gravina is not yet ready for tourists. Whilst the bridge is amazing to see against the backdrop of the village, it also comes with an enormous view of construction and as a result access to many areas of interest were closed. Gravina is clearly preparing for tourists, but it will likely be a year before construction is completed. Hopefully by then there will also be a few more tourist stores and restaurants open. We only found two of each whilst there. There are more, but even though they are advertised to be open till 12:30/1pm, most were closed well before this.
If staying for lunch, the pizza at Caffe Bella Vista is incredible (pizza and pasta is available at this restaurant even though it’s not on the menu)

The ravine was very beautiful. According to the travel guides, we also expected a lot from the town. But the opposite was true. To start with, a total lack of accommodation. It was sweltering and there was only one place where you could eat or drink something, when entering the town along the ravine. After a glass of soft drink we walked further to the "impressive" piazza, but there was nothing to see. There was nowhere where you could eat or drink anything. Our water was more than lukewarm in our backpack, so something fresh would have been more than welcome. Then we walked through the city for another half hour, (almost dehydrated) looking for our car. There is hardly any parking space available. Which, by the way, we have experienced at other centro storicos. There is still a lot of work to be done in Puglia to receive tourists.

It offers some truly memorable photo opportunities and is off the regular tourist run. There is not a huge amount to see past the aqueduct, but we enjoyed the stunning scenery almost entirely on our own. Definitely worth a trip, if not just for that ‘Bond’ shot. 😎

We stopped off on our driving tour of Puglia. Of course we knew of it due to the lates Bond film. In person it does not disappoint. If you are driving be aware there is plentiful free street parking right there at the location.

Gravina in Puglia is Wonderful ( about 25 km from Matera city of culture 2019). Good view archéology very interesting the hostoric center near the Cathedral square , Benedetto XIII Pope was born in Gravina in Puglia . I suggest you tour around S. Michele delle Grotte . In Gravina you can found good food olive oil & Wine . I suggest you the « forno S. Francesco « or « forno 77 « or « Corrado « . For « mozzarella « & « pallone di Gravina « & more i suggest you Tarantino or Ricciardi 👌

We took the 1h40 min tour, which was guided. The group was only with Italians (good that we understand this quite good). I don't know if they give the same tour in English, but I suppose. Some particular facts to learn...

We visited Gravina in October and were enchanted by this cosy, Italian town. No tourists but just traditional Italian life, great restaurants and interesting history and surroundings. Especially the gorge with the formerly inhabited rocks were well worth a visit though you shouldnot compare this to for instance Matera.

Gravina is a nice town. We really liked the place - easy to see other towns and not as expensive. The restaurants are excellent.

unlike Matera which although beautiful is quite touristy, you still feel that this is a town in which the locals live. In the evening we were the only tourists in the main square and it was great watching the locals taking their evening walk, young and old. Not as pretty as Matera but should be on your itinerary of things to see in Puglia.

Dear traveler!
These two wonderful place completely different. Gravina undeservedly not attend so many tourists. And it is in vain! Gravina deserves a visit. Historically, the city center comes at an incredibly scenic karst fault with many caves. The architecture of the old town charms.
I recommend you to visit both cities, if you have the time. You will enjoy this city to the fullest.
