Went out for the afternoon to enjoy a relatively mild February day. Impressed that you can take dogs around the grounds. Lovely pathways to follow and everything is well signposted. Snowdrops were coming out in the wilderness gardens, a sign that spring is on the way. The house would have been truly magnificent and the newly restored fountain will be... More

Sadly the famous fountains were undergoing repairs, however this did not mar the visit to this amazing ruin and gardens. The church was beautiful and the guides incredibly knowledgeable and happy to share their love of this extraordinary place. The tea gardens were super, and despite the slightly drizzly day we sat outside and watched the bees and birds flit... More

Plenty of information available to make it more than just a burnt out big house! It was interesting to be able to see what lies underneath the normally high polished interior of a large house. It's quite a walk from the car park, but a pleasant one. The large fountain was undergoing restoration when we visited, so will have to... More

I remember going here 40 years ago when it was an open space littered with ruins of an opulent bygone era...absolutely amazing gardens and house that sadly fell into ruin. They are now being slowly revived, well worth a visit if in the area.

Gorgeous place to sit and eat a picnic or just chill out. Loads of space for children to run around and explore

Visited late December, Quite a walk fom the car park to the ruins, but lovely. The ruins are impressive as are the gardens. The fountain was having essential work done but there was a platform to view it from. The cafe was closed and the weather cold so we didn't stay that long. Overall I enjoyed the visit but thought... So we went in late December. It was a cold day but not raining. This place is one of those venues I feel would be nice in any weather. Wow! Its grandeur and splendor, even in its current state makes you think how nice it was when it was in its Victorian state. Nice big grounds for the kids to... More

Except for the fact that the rain came down in buckets it's a great place to visit. Beautiful surroundings and views.

Go there. Pick a sunny day and explore. Beautiful. Great tea rooms. Lovely place for a leisurely picnic. Very relaxing. Do it.
