Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Have wanted to visit for so long so what a joy to finally get here! To think the likes of Hadrian and Nero were once here...The views took my breath away. Many buildings on an array of terraces and ...lots of steps! Unfortunately there was little signage so I wasn't sure what I was looking at however that didn't detract from the magnificence of this place.

Wonderfull Roman archeological site. We visited late December and had the place to ourselves. Not sure about crowd size during the summer season. Fun for the entire family to wander and explore. Don't miss the "echo chamber" and the upside down fig tree.
We arrived soon after opening time and could park right near the ticket window. Small parking area so if there is a small crowd you would need to park on the street...somewhere.

The site is wonderful, but, before I say any more, I must give a grave warning. We visited the site for two or so hours, but when we returned to our car, we found a sizeable hole smashed in a window and a large number of our possessions stolen. Admittedly, we see now we may well have been overly lax about security, but the town of Bacoli is still obviously far from safe, and I would firmly advise finding a safe car park and, if nothing else, making sure there is nothing of any value in the car. Covering stuff up didn't seem to make any difference in our case, and I can only assume it isn't good enough to hide possessions- they must not be there in the first place!
However, the actual site is wonderful and is certainly worth a visit- a massive area of fabulous Roman ruins, with very few restrictions on access and, for us at any rate, virtually deserted. Worth a particular visit is the amazing and haunting Temple of Mercury, the oldest Roman concrete dome of its kind, and surely deserving of far more fame than it currently has. So, if you get the chance, do go, but for goodness sake, make sure any car you bring is empty!

Very few visitors, while this place has nothing less than many other more famous Roman sites. It is surely worth a visit to appreciate how the Romans were clever in setting up and organizing their life

We were the only people here at one point and it was tranquil.

You enter at the higher level and descend to the lower portion - making it quite a trek for those not good on their feet. Once down tough there are amazingly well preserved buildings and the enclosed dome is almost magical with an eerie echo sound.

All in all well worth a visit and if you're lucky you can park right outside (if not there's plenty of on street free parking in a short walking distance.

Imagine a well preserved, concise Pompeii with no crowds. The forums, baths and town are immensely accessible and give a feeling of touching as opposed to just viewing the Romans in their daily life. Recently excavated we were surprised to see modern buildings on the boundary whose footings were tied into the ancient structures. While we were there, there was only a handful of other visitors and the entry was even left momentarily unattended. There was a group of what appeared to be graduate students surveying and taking elevation sitings. They were friendly, but we could only exchange greetings. I would have loved to know if they were measuring Bradyism and what they were finding. Touring the archaeological park, in conjunction with a dive of the underwater preserve is a lifetime highlight.

Beautiful sea side city with two archeological sites: one above and one below the sea level. Them former can easily be visited on foot and comprises constructions from the roman era, when Bacoli was a vacation destination for rich romans, and the second can be admired from the bottom of a boat. The boat service is narrated by a very experienced architect who gives enthusiastic and detailed explanation of all artifacts and sightseeing. It is very worth going!

Put on your walking shoes and walk all the way down into the baths. It is quiet and beautiful. I was alone in the domed bath of Mercury. I has a long echo. This is so worthwhile. We went with a private driver which made our day very enjoyable.

If you liked Pompei and Herculaneum, you will love this imperial bath complex. On a Tuesday afternoon in May there was not a single other person visiting. While the 'baths of Mercury' who are partially filled with water are astounding beautiful. Completely vaulted with a skylight it is huge and almost completely intact. Two huge temples are also on the site and numerous buildings and frescos. It is possible to go almost everywhere and explore it, unlike heavy restricted Pompei.

Stunning bath complex offering a glimpse into the lifestyles of the rich and ancient Roman. We’ll worth a detour. Not to be missed: the upside down fig tree!
