Excellent lentil soup and pho. Comfortable and excellent service. Easy to get there via train and near popular Brunswick & Smith Street shopping areas.

So close to the city (only a 10 minute walk from our hotel) but so different to city retailing. So much variety with both retailing and restaurants and more personal than the corporate and franchise nature of the nearby CBD. Although we walked, easy to...More

The Gertrude Street Projection Festival 2016 was a revelation of light and image that I have not experienced before. Cute and provocative, whimsical or just plain odd - a lovely evening promenade with friends: my fav was the human-made northern lights in Atherton Gardens. 6...More

Convenient and caring. Not the most modern hotel we have stayed at, however, it provided all that we needed on this occasion. We walked to the garden expo at Carlton Gardens and the CBD without a lot of effort.

Go for a wander and have a good look at the shops - wondrous stuff, pricey yes, but beautiful and well worth it. Add Smith Street to your trip for the great furniture stores.

There are also affordable eating places and an Indigenous cultural presence. Gertrude Street is also residential. There...More

The owners of the units we were staying in told us to go here and we loved this little street and Smith Street. Maggie's an organic shop was a gem of a find and we bought some beautiful dry curries only made in Melbourne -...More

Gertrude street was a wee gem to discover. Quirky and interesting architecture, galleries and shops. Should feature higher in the tourist guides. Worth a short tram ride.

We stumbled on the gertrude street night art festival. Cant remember its exact name. Images projected onto the side of buildings just kept us mesmerized and the VW beetle was spectular. We wandered the street for at least two hours with many others quite safely...More

Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots,
hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic.
Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll
find little independent shops where local clothes and
furniture designers display their wares. There are
specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality
vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best
thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its
