Maréis invites you to discover the work of a fisherman in Etaples which is well-known in France for its quality and savoir-faire. And so are the different species from the Channel and the North Sea. Thanks to a surprising and entertaining visit, your guide will bring you from the dockyard to the open sea. You will discover the different fishing techniques, and you will learn everything about life on a trawler where fishermen work day and night to bring fresh fish. Before you turn into a good fisherman, you will receive skills on how to navigate and how to make a knot such a genuine fisherman. The seaside won’t have any secrets to you anymore : thanks to an underwater camera you will watch a seabed. That will bring you a lot of surprises!

Having read the reviews we decided to visit Etaples especially to visit this museum, perhaps I expected to much, but I found the .museum disappointing. The displays of the fish were interesting, but most of the information was gathered by reading text, sometimes in low light levels. I will not be paying a repeat visit

We have been through Etaples several times without stopping. This time we did stop: twice. Once to find out that we had only 10 minutes before they closed for lunch and to determine that it would be worth stopping after returning from Le Touquet, the second time to spend over an hour wandering around the display. Although the port is... More

A favourite place to go with grandchildren on a wet day. It is both educational and entertaining. It is suitable for young children who love touching the fish and older ones usually manage to learn something new.

This well presented little museum gives a thorough view of the local fishing industry. There are enough hands on displays to keep children interested and in depth information in French & English for those who want to read it. The highlight is the final tank with rays & turbot which you can touch. Well worth a visit, especially if you've... More

Great place for the family esp on rainy days. Kids love it and they can touch the fish. Pop over the road for a bite to eat and it's a great day Staff very helpful, lift for pushchairs and wheelchairs

12 aquariums! Where? We were sorely disappointed in mareis, it was very small and only took a small amount if time to walk round! We even did it twice! Just glad out daughters were free!

We had been looking forward to this but it was small and poorly maintained. It is a museum about fish and fishing made as interesting as possible. We were there in peak season so it was also very busy with lots of holiday club kids as well (about 50). The highlight was touching the rays.

Great displays covering a wide range of topics in detail. The scale model of a trawler is impressive. It is more than just a museum but really puts across the dangers and thrills of being a seaman in this part of France.

This museum is well worth a visit, you will have a good 3/4 hours in here. Lots of fun things to do for all ages, rock pools, not like UK, where you can actually touch the creatures and investigate their habitats. Fantastic virtual boat experience. Learn to tie all different kinds of knot. Conger Eel was HUGE...our family loved it.

We were really impressed and learned a lot about the fishermen of Etaples and the different ways of fishing. We also enjoyed the aquaria and being able to get so close to the fish. A lovely shop there too.
