A wonderful tribute to the Dutch Golden Age, a gem of a museum
Sep 2020
Possibly one of the nicest 'small museums' I every visited. Together with the garden and the audio tour you can still spend easily 2 hours there. Especially in 'corona time' with fewer visitors allowed it is even more comfortable. Interesting stories, enthusiastic guide in the house, and cool sense of history from the recently excavated ice cellar to the space exposition in the attic. It really is a gem.
Possibly it is more exciting for Dutch people because of the greatness of both Constantijn and esp Christiaan Huygens and their lasting and even increasingly acknowledged legacies. But still, as a manifestation of the great Golden Age every one should be able to enjoy that it has been rescued and can still be visited today.

Juwel that needs no crown
Jul 2019 • Couples
The former Huygens out of town residence is in the middle of a formal garden and moat. In the summer it serves as backdrop to a sculpture exhibition of monumental work - this year- by Helaine Blume feld (uk). Apart from this exhibition you can visit the house, or have refreshments in the visitor reception building cum shop at the entrance. The garden deserves your attention. It is in formal geometrical style. Notice the big fig trees.
A walk here takes you out of the urban bustle and can be very relaxing. Coffee here is excellent!

Very cozy town, Herenstraat, the main street is full of old duidings, nice shops, very good restourants. A lot of parks. Super rich market on Suterdays and Flooienmarket on Sundays.
Lovly place for day off.

Beautiful small city near The Hague
Oct 2017
Voorburg was founded some 2000 years ago as Forum Hadriani, a roman army man. The Romans digged out the canal - the Vliet - that still streams trough Voorburg.
The centre of the city still has its old glory.
And don't forget that Constantijn Huygens and his son Christian lived hier as well.
