If there is a zero star, this is what they will deserved. There were eight of us in this small group tour and we were all Asians from America. As we were in the middle of the cheese tasting, a rude French tour guide interjected our group and blocked us from continuing the tasting. He told us to go to the back and to let his group go first. Our tour leader told this guy politely that our group was there first and that we were directed there by the shop personnel who demonstrated the cheese making. The idiot refused to move and still blocked the way. Then came the owner of this shop. Instead of helping the situation, you could see he is so racially biased. Told our tour guide to move us to the back as he said he knew the French guy for more than 15 years and that French guide brings him more business. Later, a lady personnel came over to apologize for the situation but not the owner.This should not have happened. There’s no respect for people. No one should visit this store!!

We were here a few years ago and the show put on by the owner while explaining wooden shoe making was campy and he was...umm... taken with himself (or was that the real show? Haha). I don't remember him from our last visit or the show being so corny but he was entertaining and surprising about how few hand make the shoes. The dairy part was pure factual. There is a small attached shop that sells cheese made on site and wooden shoes as well as local souvenirs. Of course, my wife bought something, a mini Delft windmill. It was a nice stop in the beautiful countryside only a short distance outside of Amsterdam.

This was a bit of a letdown in an otherwise fabulous Dutch countryside private tour. I understand that tourists going to the Netherlands want to see clog making and cheese making, but it is ever so “touristy”. Being tourists ourselves I should not really complain, but the lad explaining cheese making was really not up to the task, and the clog making demonstration was a kind of stand-up comedy. Even the cheese selection was disappointing (no Edam cheese only Gouda) – there is a much better selection in an everyday Amsterdam market.

My wife and I were in a small group (8 people of Asian descent from USA) tour organized by Water Experience. Our guide Ali was funny and took good care of us. Our second stop at Irene Hoeve’s cheese and clog was marred by a very upsetting experience for us. Our host at the place had asked us to taste the cheese and wine when a French guide ( white French guy) interrupted us and blocked us from tasting the cheese and wine. He was rude and displayed a bullying attitude. Our guide tried to reason with him. Then the owner (man) came (name is probably Stephen) came and badly handled the situation. He took the side of the French guide without knowing the whole situation. We were just visitors and directed to go to the cheese and wine tasting. Whatever the flow of the process, we had no idea. We decided to leave the room. Outside, a lady employee, perhaps related to the owner apologized to us. She was nice and suggested it was just a communication issue. We didn’t think so. We felt discriminated.

If you find yourself in Katwoude, Holland (The Netherlands) then do stop at a cheese farm. I suggest Irene Hoeve since they make both cheese and wooden shoes in one location. You'll get an explanation of how the Edam cheese is made, then how wooden shoes are made, and then you can browse their gift store where there is a HUGE spread of all the cheeses for you to sample as much as you wish. It is well worth a stop here. The cheeses are... well, there's no word to describe their heavenly taste. And I have forewarn you... I bought some cheese, but not much. Now I am home and am frantic that I cannot find it online to buy. So... buy a lot if you like it. It may be your one and only opportunity to get it!

If you want truly authentic Netherlands cheese this is the place to get it! We attended an excellent demonstration of cheese making. Yes, the cheese you buy here is made right here!
You can try a variety of cheeses with a small glass of brandy to refresh the palate between tastings. We decided on the large "Old Gouda" (€15) and we are very happy that we did so!
The famous wooden clogs are also made here as well. Be sure to ask about the excellent demonstration of how the clogs are made given by one of the very few clog makers left in the Netherlands.

A little side excursion from Amsterdam. Cheesemaking and clog demonstration. Nice break in the action and tasty samples of Gouda cheese.

This stop was part of a small group tour. While mildly interesting, the demonstration was a yawner. The clog making was a bit of a pretense to separate tourists from their cash. I found nothing charming about the shop as it seemed almost industrial. My wife did buy a few souvenirs and it seemed like any other touristy souvenir shop in the area, Nothing charming and totally businesslike.The group did get to sample some cheese (I did not due to a slight lactose intolerance) and they seemed to sell a lot of the base cannabis (without the active THC) cheese which seemed very popular locally and probably for its novelty. This business seemed to thrive on its tourist business and didn't really appear to be a farm. I think we and the others would have preferred a visit to a working dairy farm to see the process. This location gave a short explanation of the cheese-making process with some really cheesy humor, which I did not find particularly funny, thrown in. Overall, it was OK but if it wasn't part of the tour and skipped it I wouldn't have missed it.

Beat the crowds and high prices by experiencing cheese and clog making at its finest! Shh- don’t tell EVERYONE or it will lose its charm. For now- it’s a great place to watch one of the brothers explain the family craft of wooden shoe making and you get a clue up look/listen to cheese making details. Sample cheese- and take advantage of free mustard when you buy a certain amount of cheese. Claim it if you leave the country- but it is safe to travel with and once you get home you can relive the memories. Fresh cheese, all sizes of clogs, friendly staff- well worth the drive!

Our coach driver stopped here when we were exploring and this was a great demonstration of artisan cheese and clog making. Top marks to the chap showing how clogs were made. Nice selection of cheeses to sample

Is there a fee to visit your place? What times do you have the Clog Demo. We are not arriving on a tour bus but driving ourselves possible on December 30th, wednesday.
