Must See Museum in Noord Holland
Jul 2019 • Family
We really loved this museum. It has an amazing collection of artifacts dating way back into the second Ice Age. I especially liked the facial reconstruction of the skulls that they found. It gave you a real sense of what the people were like. Very much like the people that are living there now. The Germanic warrior could have been someone you'd have met an hour before on the street. This museum is a hidden gem that deserves way more visitors.

Small but interesting
Mar 2017 • Solo
This is a very nice, small museum with a nice atmosphere.

Linked to the archeological depot, on display are several archeological finds with descriptions on each item on touch screens which need a bit of figuring out. One of the best features is the way the clothing of each time period is displayed. Not with the usual stiff plastic models but beautiful waxwork figures with rich detail.

The restaurant has a small menu but is excellent. The museum is located directly next to the train station.

Very interesting, small archeological museum. Very well done exhibits. Also good for school- age children. Most of the information is in English as well as German. The staff are very helpful. Well worth a visit to learn more about the region. Nice little cafe and gift shop

why not learn about the (pre)history of the area around, especially the dunes...
did you know the romans lived nearby, but also french, english and russian soldiers passed by. some nice events organised once and a while, whereas also a great archive plus archeology demo and courses. and anyway a small restaurant serving local specialities, even on a roofed terrace in summer. great architecture, watch those stone slabs on the walls, they contain real fossils from italian seas in the past. what a way spending your time, good choice! keep on walking to the sea, what a day.... enjoy!

A big let down
Jan 2017 • Solo
I had been advised that this was a "must do" on my trip back to my hometown. Sadly, I was left disappointed. A lot of displays were very similar, and somewhat boring. After 10 clay pots I'd seen enough, but no, there were more display cases of the same.
I found the information on the displays difficult to read, due to the colour of the print on the display cases. The main headlines were in Dutch, English and German, but all the individual tags were only in Dutch (I can read and speak it, so no problem for me, but if you don't read the language, you will miss a lot)
As another reviewer mentioned, it appears to more a plaything for archaeologists rather than a credible museum.

Great way to learn about Noord Holland's history

Spent a great hour or so here learning about the history of the area. The museum is small but we'll designed. Where they have skeletons they been able to reconstruct faces. It's really intetesting to see. Very cheap entry €5 for adults and €2 for kids 11-17.

Huis van Hilde , Castricum
after a lotto of publicity we went to see Huis van Hilde .
The place looks professional and is setup roomy.
But they mist the opportunity to make a inspiring exhibition.
The tags are unreadable , the audio soloed and boomy the narration not to understand.
All the fancy ipads give the same dull info.
There is not realy something to do, and the use of human remans is unethical.
If you plan to go with children , don't they will be bored within15 minutes.
It was a big disappointment, and more a toy for the areologist then an exhibition.
