Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a pretty and colourful puebla that is being overrun by tourist groups. We stopped here for lunch after our climb up El Penol. The buildings and storefronts are indeed beautiful to look at but the hordes of tourists spoiled the experience. I did find some less busy side streets to explore and once the large tourist groups left for the day, I was able to get some nice pictures. Word is out that Guatape is worth visiting but unfortunately overtourism is changing this once quaint puebla into another heavily visited tourist stop.

The Plazoleta De Los Zócalos is a fairly representative place of Guatapé. It is quite close to the central square, there you will find different craft shops, food stores and people who take photographs for the souvenir for $10,000 pesos (2.4 usd approximately). This place is quite nice, ideal for taking different types of photographs, this due to the architecture of the place, the painting of houses and premises as well as the Parasols that hang along the street. You cannot leave Guatapé without visiting this place and keep a nice memory.

A very typical and picturesque place in the town of Guatapé. There are many shops with souvenirs, a shoe factory (very good by the way and at an excellent price), and typical local sweets. From here you can also see the Guatapé lagoon. There are good restaurants. Recommended. If you intend to visit this place and its surroundings such as El Peñol, you must reserve the entire day for it, if you are traveling from Medellín.

This town is beautiful, and has many tourists during the day. Wander away from the main clauses to see the smaller alleyways and escape the crowds, just as colorful and beautiful. This is a great way to spend half a day.

Strolling around Guatape is a real pleasure. There is color everywhere. Every house, every building, every restaurant, every store, and even the church, display proudly their creative "zocalos". These are ornamental stripes painted in the lower half of the exterior walls, depicting flowers, animals, local scenes, symbols, in bold combinations of intense colors.
Steps away from the Main Square and the Church, you will find the Plazoleta de los Zocalos. It is a small square, with rows of steps in one of its sides, each step painted in a different color, yellow, blue, red, green. It is surrounded by colorful buildings and souvenir stores, cafes and restaurants.
Locals and tourist congregate at this spot, where you can take pictures, find street performers, listen to Colombian music, or simply sit down and relax.

Yes it is touristy but what a pretty town. The colours and atmosphere on a Sunday. Loved it. Browse, take photographs, get a bite to eat or have a drink and then get lost in the pretty streets. Explore! Easy to navigate. The town is very small.

A brightly colored small, pedestrian square, surrounded by shops & restaurants. Be sure to check out the chocolate store, the best chocolate in Colombia BY FAR!

Area is so colorful and well maintained. Shops are fun, artisanal ice-cream was delicious! Picture opportunities were great! Perfect compliment to Piedra del Penol!
