A beautiful church situated within Wilton nearby the village centre. If exploring the area it’s a must see. Free to walk the grounds.

We are moving to the area and my husband lived there as a child. The building has the most beautiful architecture and interior, I was overwhelmed by its spendour. I am not a church goer but have to admit my visit was a very moving and peaceful experieince. So glad I actually went inside and looked and felt the serenity it offered. I have a strong feeling I will go back once we are settled in our new home.…

We had a look in the church after exploring the village. The frescos are particularly colourful after you press the timed light switch by the green notice board after entering the church. The Italian and Russian influences make it a very different church. Well worth a visit.

This church is known as the Italianate Church and for good reason. As you come round the corner in Wilton and catch sight of it, you could be forgiven for thinking you’d been teleported to Italy, especially the tower. The interior is the most extraordinary mish mash of styles. There’s a Byzantine mosaic ceiling above the nave, mediaeval stained glass from France, marble columns from a 2nd century Roman temple in Italy, a beautifully Romanesque style archway entrance carved in the Victorian era. There are descriptive panels in the Victorian gothic style. Overall it’s a bewildering architectural experience, though not in a bad way, just very confusing.
