Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well during our stay we opted for the full day tour and Dal lake is one of the prominent point to cover during the trip. Though the place is well located and beautiful scenery around it however the lake itself is quite a disappointment probably due to the lack of local authorities interest in managing the place. Even in peak Winter lake doesn't have enough water to make it look like the tourist spot don't know what will happen in summers. So if one does wish to skip this during the sightseeing you will not be missing anything great.

Beautiful small natural lake around the mountains. Amazing sun set view of dal lake and picturesque. It is a famous tourist spot for picnics, relaxing, and boating. Must visit with friends and family to spend your time.

Honestly I'm surprised this sess pit is even called a lake. It's full of cow turd, litter and sadness. Taxi's fly past you with little regard for your safety on the winding road on the walk up. The surroundings are in a state of disrepair and despair.

Visited this place recently with family. The trees in the background makes the place picturesque for sure. But the lake is shallow and dirty. A boat is partially submerged in it and no one seems to care. Take care of your shoes or you might step on some dung. Not worth visiting at all unless you want some pictures with the trees in the background.

Please do not get confused by the name "Dal Lake" and have an image of the Kashmir Lake. It just a little pond with some boating facility. It's a pure waste of time and money to visit this attraction. You can spend some quality time elsewhere. No basic amenities around and they have highlighted it as an attraction.

This is a man made lake which was not impressive at all. The water looked dirty. The guide did say that movies were shot at the Banks. All in all can be avoided if pressed for time.

If you have less time in Mc Leod Ganj , this can be dropped without any regrets . Just the lake and that is too without much attraction. But if you like walking , a good option to walk from McLeod Ganj to Cant through the forest with a breathtaking view of the snow capped mountain range. On your way, stop at the cathedral of St Johns in the wilderness . From Cant go up on the right side.It is 3 KM to the lake. You may go around the lake though not spectacular . Personally other than the walk upto it in beautiful spring weather , attraction did not fascinate me.

It took me hours to reach this place because of terrible roads and steep inclines and in the end i saw a pond of muddy water ..... There was nothing in the lake except dirt . there were no public toilets nearby ... Really dissapointed .. I do not recommend you to go there...not at all worth seeing ..

A rather huge disappointment indeed. The lake, it seems is not really well taken care of. The water level is low and the immediate surroundings rather 'scrappy'. Not much one can do there - probably take a basket and relax on the sparse grass. However, if one walks further away into the 'forest', it is pleasant and the air is fresh and clean. This area seems much better cared for. We were informed that the lake 'flows' during the rainy season.
One could give this a miss.
