The church was quite dark and not very special. We walked around the monastery but neither the cafe was overly inviting nor did we want to spend money to enter the 2nd church. Good for a break while crossing Oberalp but thats it.

It is true that the cloisters is spectacular, in fact you see it from everywhere in the village, and the church inside is nicely decorated. All this is freely accessible and worth a quick stop. It is another story with the -unreasonably expensive- museum inside....More

If you ever go to Disentis this is an amazing monastery! The architecture is amazing, as well as the history of the building as well.

This monastery can be seen from many places in Disentis. Its location on the slope of the mountain adds to its charm. Its architecture belongs to the Baroque style, when it was rebuilt. Its origins dates back several hundred years before that.

Large monastery right in the middle of the village. Nice to visit if you feel like relaxing from the slopes.

If you're in Disentis this is the must place to visit. Both architecture and spiritual feeling. I am not a very religious man, but I was charmed by the feeling of being there.
