It felt a long climb uphill. It was a fine clear day so I rested a few times and took it slowly. The trails are good. The beautiful landscape, the panoramic view of valley, lake behind me, spending time observing Litlanesfoss charging down the canyon,...More

Very close to the city, so you can make a tour very easy. You'll need 1 hour to climb there and 20 min to get back. It's not too steep so you can go for sure. The path is well maintained and the views are...More

90% of the hike is uphill with spectacular views and two waterfalls. Litlanesfoss is the first smaller waterfall you'll cross woth surrounding basalt columns. Continue the hike and you'll reach a Hengifoss which is a skinny waterfall with very unique surrounding rock formations. Great hike...More

So nice here! I loved the view and the people on the trail were great. There were super cute sheep and lamb wandering around freely!

I'm conflicted about this review. The waterfall is amazing, as is the view back into the valley from the top. Nothing short of spectacular. Well worth the stop if you can find parking (difficult in the busy season) and manage the steep climb (about 30-40...More

The path to this waterfall is steep, right out of the parking lot. Younger hikers would probably not think as much about it, but at age 70, it got my attention. The falls are beautiful along the way to Hengifoss, the main attraction. The last...More

We hiked many waterfalls while visiting Iceland, but this was probably second favorite. We were there on a beautiful (rare) blue sky day and hiked up to hengifoss. Such a scenic trail, a tad bit steep at the beginning but worth the climb.

The hike to Hengifoss isn't hard, just take you're time up the mountain and you'll be rewarded with a spectacular waterfall. There weren't too many people on the trail mid-July which was nice. I think being off the main tourist ring route it eased up...More

Hengifoss waterfall lies at the side of gravel road 931. It is an impressive stepped waterfall and you can take a steep 2 km hike up to the top. My husband and I returned after the first viewpoint, because it started to rain and the...More

Hengifoss waterfall is at the east of Iceland. We need to park at the road side car park and walk for 2km to reach the waterfall. The climb is not steep, and as we walk further away from the roadside, and every look back gives...More

The nearest road is bitumen, so yes, you will be able to get there in a 2WD. From the parking area to the waterfall is a 45 minute walk, up hill.

Locals recommend tourists not driving in winter/ dark months. I'm not sure regarding what the weather conditions will be in march. We visited in July.
