The geothermal possibilities continue to astound. Boiling water and expanding steam are the basis for these craters and resulting beautiful lakes. They are very reflective of the buildings that are close by. Great experience

We were driving along and came across all of these tour buses pulled over so we decided to take a look. This is a really neat walk along many pseudo craters all in one spot. There is also a nice view from the top of...More

What is a pseudo crater? The simple answer is when lava flows over water, a vent of steam might bore through, causing the lava to collapse and leaving a crater, one not formed typically by a collapsed erupting volcano. The result photographic opportunity is pretty...More

This area is quite beautiful and unique - volcanic craters, lava which bubbled up and mixed with water and thus didn't erupt, forming these craters......only in Hawaii (or in space!) can you find this natural phenomena. Lots of walking paths and elevations, enjoy and take...More

A short hike through pseudocraters that are probably cool from an aerial view but only ok when close up. The pseudocraters are formed by steam explosions when burning lava meets lakes or wetlands. The views were still nice, with the green grass, blue lake water,...More

Very small and very friendly place - a small chapel, a souvenir shop with good coffee. It was so windy when we were there we hardly managed to see the fake-craters (very nice by the way) but we felt so confortable in the place.

The pseudo craters here are fascinating, the hiking trails are easy and the views of Lake Myvatn are wonderful. There is not a lot here, but this is a terrific short stop of 30-45 minutes and a good opportunity for photos.

Came as a part of a tour of the Myvatn area. This area with pseudo craters offers walking trails (one shorter, one longer) with minor elevation changes that offer great views of the Myvatn area. We did the shorter trail and it only took about...More

If you loop south around Lake Myvatin you'll run into a couple of hotels and a parking lot where you can hop out of your car and take an easy stroll (couple of small hills) to see some interesting topography. It was cold the day...More
