- In Glyn’s World4 contributionsMust do visit in JaipurSheer size and location makes this a must do visit on any itinerary to Jaipur. We went with a guide and driver from our tour company to avoid the Jeep or elephant transfers. Incredible view from outside and within. Just wish we could walk more of those walls…Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 March 2023
- MidtownieMemphis, Tennessee220 contributionsGet your guide insideWe pulled over for a photo outside and was approached by a "guide." Our Hilton appointed driver assured us this guy would be fine if we wanted a guide. Wrong and we think maybe they knew each other. Anyway, get your guide inside if you want one. The fort is massive and really cool to wander through on your own as well.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 March 2023
- JHtripLondon, United Kingdom75 contributionsStunning fort in beautiful settingStunning place - in breath taking setting. We went with a guide called Guljari who was excellent (organised for us by The Tiger Tours) - there is so much to see here that a good guide is essential for making the most of it. Before we went to India, I wondered if we would end up being 'forted out' by the time we got here. But if you have enough knowledge to appreciate the differences in history and culture from Agra fort - you will not feel this way.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2023
- ZackCalifornia9 contributionsMust visitAmer Palace is a must-see while in Jaipur. A visit is highly recommended. Each trip to Jaipur must include a stop at the fort. The fort has a huge area and is home to numerous buildings, halls, rooms, and gardens, each of which has a distinct history and function. To avoid the massive crowds that are drawn to this famous palace, be sure to hire a reliable guide and show up early. a beautiful location. Strongly suggested. nicely designed and executed. Diwane Khaas offers fantastic photo opportunities.Visited April 2022Written 28 March 2023
- Dirk WAlexandra Headland, Australia6,464 contributionsImposingEven driving up on Amer Road and looking at the fort across Maota Lake, it looks dauntingly imposing. Massive ramparts, successive gates and zigzagging cobblestone path leading up to the hillside fort. Although extremely controversial, it is one of the rare places where you can sit in an elephant traffic jam - or take a jeep up, if you prefer. Once up, it pays to have a good guide to explain the different sections of palace. It is spread out over four levels and there's lots to see. The Palace has been a dedicated UNESCO Heritage Site since 2013 and is well maintained.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2023
- AnandG1982New Delhi, India709 contributionsAmber PalaceAmber Place is in my view the top place to visit Jaipur. You have to take a small hike to reach, however it is very well manageable for young people. However for elderly it may be difficult. Only one tip, please visit during the winter season only.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 April 2023
- Eileen108Mount Shasta, California4,314 contributionsHuge Complex and Fun to Explore!I got the audio guide on my phone for Rs 200, it was worth it because a lot was described clearly in English. It was fun to explore the huge complex, even though it is only empty rooms. But interesting to see where the royals lived for so long!Visited December 2022Written 16 June 2023

I would like to thank Mr Manoj Sharma from ITC Rajputana concierge desk, who made the arrangements for us. Also, I would like to thank our Driver Sir Mr Rakesh and last but not the least Mr Vijay Singh, who is a seasoned professional and has immense knowledge about the history of Amber Palace. - Sandie02Shenzhen, China883 contributionsMust see😎. Our favorite tour in JaipurWe hired a tuk tuk taxi for the day for 1200 thru our hotel. Met a taxi driver later who offered his services and dropped down to 500.... So I see alot of wiggle room. But if we come back again I would just hire one for a half day to come to this spot and then use uber within the city. We took the elephant up in the end although at first I was against it but didn't want regrets. It was cool outside and non tourist season so I figured why not. (1100 for two) But I gotta say not the most comfortable ride. The jeeps would be more comfortable. Hire a guide. Make sure he has the green badge so legit. Cost is 500r. Worth every penny. They will also take your photos and know all the best spots. Tip him for his troubles. Ours was so patient. Expect to spend at least 1.5 to 2 hours here it's quite large. This is the kings palace with his wife's.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 August 2023

The Amber Fort is a magnificent fortress located in Jaipur, India, renowned for its stunning architecture and rich history. Its grandeur is evident in its intricate design, with impressive palaces, courtyards, and temples within its walls. The fort offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, adding to its allure. Visitors can explore its various sections, including the Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) and the Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors), adorned with intricate mirror work. Overall, the Amber Fort is a must-visit destination, showcasing the opulence of Rajputana architecture and culture.

A must-see in Jaipur, we went without a guide, it is also possible to take an audio guide. My review will be on getting there and away.
We tried getting an auto-rickshaw to the Amber Palace via Uber, but all of them canceled. They all declined single trips there, it seems all drivers agreed on that. So we got a driver for the day via our hotel, we paid 1100 Rs (for the whole day, including wait times and the drive to other places). The drive to the parking from the northern part of the city takes around 25-35 minutes.
The driver will then drop you at the parking near the entrance, you can then easily walk up to the Palace, there is a dedicated pedestrian way. Do not take the elephants, they are seemingly not treated well.
Overall, a must-do in Jaipur, very nice architecture and palace rooms. We only wished getting there and away was not such a pain.

Must visit in Jaipur. The best part though is the outside view. Inside the highlight is the Sheesha Mahal and wondering around the upper level. My review would be 4.5

A nice giant fort where you can spend hours roaming around. The best place here to take pictures is a mirror hall so I guess you will want to spend some time mostly there.

Feel this is a must do in Jaipur, as well as the elephant ride from bottom carpark up the steep road to fort entry. Fantastic architecture. Allow 2 hours.

Rajasthan it's called best architecture in Jaipur. This gorgeous monument is built with white marble, pale yellow, and pink sandstones. Every wall has detailed architecture like the work of glasses and the walls. You need atleast 4-5 hours for this place. Paid parking is available.

I suggest don't take Jeep service available as it is not worth the money and time. Park your car or get down from taxi and walk up the staircase. May or may not take guide, as I have taken the guide, will explain lot and take you around. Must dedicate lot of time as there are lot of steps and long corridor taking you to different places of the building.

I will be visiting Jaipur in a self driven car. So, which one should I visit first - Amber fort or Jaigarh fort?
What is the best way to travel from one to another?
Prakhar M
Ghaziabad, India90 contributions
Both forts are on same route and you can visit both of them in a single day. If your car has a descent ground clearance (and you are a good driver) then you can easily drive to both places by your own car else park your car and can rent a jeep (or a vintage car) for to & fro ride.
Cheers

How much walking would be required to cover at least major spots in the fort?
I am currently in Jaipur & have elderly parents with me, so wanted to check if any of the three forts(Amer, Nahargarh or Jaigarh) can be visited with parents or shouldn't trouble them with this?

What is the cost of Elephant ride ?

Please dont ride elephants, it is horrible abuse of majestic creatures. If you ever saw how they “tame” elephants in order to ride them it would make your stomach turn. If you want to experience an elephant up close visit a sanctuary, but riding them is keeping a disgusting business alive and well while torturing sentient creatures who as the old saying goes, “never forget.”
