About
Only 3km away from the centre of Zabljak, Malo (Small) and Veliko (Big) Lakes merge into Crno (Black) Lake. This lake is specific for its dark blue shade of water, which often seems black, and the effect is created by the Lake's depth and the dense Durmitor pine forest surrounding it.

Costs is €3/pp. there are kayaks and wooden row boats you can rent and paddle around the large lake. Just wow!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 September 2023
- familytravel4x4Liphook, United Kingdom627 contributionsWorth the 3 hour drive from Herceg Novi! The lakes are very picturesque with a stunning dark emerald green colour. We opted to walk around both lakes and followed a mix of woodland trail and lake edge trails - not always easy with occasional scrambling when we went off piste! We were too early for the cascades which apparently breakthrough about June when the surrounding terrain is full of water. No matter, the walk itself was great albeit care needs to be taken - lots of rocks and tree roots to watch out for on the trail which is designated as ‘dangerous’! Just take it easy and enjoy the walk which offers some lovely views of the lakes.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024

- BritmariePDXPortland, Oregon62 contributionsBeautiful views. Follow the path.We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant on site and then headed out for a walk around the lake. We veered off the trail at one point and got a bit lost. I would recommend staying on the trail. It’s about 3 miles around and signs weren’t always clear about where to go. Also, there were a few parts that required scrambling up rocks. I was shocked to see people doing this in sandals. The views and the lake were beautiful.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 August 2024

Our family of 5 really enjoyed swimming in the lake and hanging out for a few hours after doing other activities. We went twice and it was very busy at the weekend, but it's easy to get away from the crowds by walking round to the smaller lake which takes about 30 minutes. There is a small charge to get in but throughly worth it in our view.

It is indeed a very beautiful lake and a nice walk for those who can’t do the big hikes in durmitor. However, it is just a lake with big mountain in background… nice color but… this is it. If like many people you only do this visit for the day, you will have to pay 3 euros/person (fair) plus 2 euros for a non existent parking situated in a (public) street they can’t even control. The extra for parking seems new this year and is a complete rip off.

Lovely walk around the black lake (2 lakes combined) which takes around 1.5 hours, the walk itself is not difficult with just one set of rocky stairs. The surrounding views are beautiful. A few people were swimming in the lake also.
We were staying in Portonovi so it was a three hour drive each way ... Ideally I would suggest you combine this with other things to do in the area (eg the bridge) otherwise it's a long way to go to just do this walk. It started pouring just as we were leaving so we had to abandon the rest of our plans.

Amazing nature! Durmitor National Park includes a mountain and several lakes of which Black Lake is the most beautiful. The hiking trail around the Black Lake is amazing, of medium difficulty and passes through springs that flow down the mountain. All recommendations.

The place itself is beautiful, however it was quite crowded, so we did not spend much time here.
Easily accessible from the parking lot, there is a surface road leading to the lakes (so baby stollers and wheelchars won't be a problem). Also there is a path in the woods with fresh air, mushrooms. Those who pay attention find cranberries and raspberries along the path.

Beautiful lake, you can walk around it, in the shadow of the trees so it is not so hot.
Nice coffee fe shop just on the lake.
The parking is nearby but you have to pay 2 euros and 5 euro per person for entrance.

This lake in the middle of Durmitor National Park and very close to Zabljak. The only disappointment is the fact that it is very touristy, but there is a reason that it is so popular. The lake is breathtaking and very mystique. The walk around the lake is 4km and pretty easy. You will get better views of the lake. Swimming is a great activity and mostly quiet, because almost no one does it. This was one of my highlights in Montenegro.

Hi! I'm going to Montenegro at the end of May, but not sure whether to hire a row boat at the Black Lake in Durmitor or to do this at Biogradska Gora (for 1-2 hours).
I'm planning to stay in Zabljak for 3 days and I consider to skip Biogradska Gora...
Also thinking to raft through the Tara river, to hike from Sedlo to Prutas and Bobotov Kuk, and trying to get to Curevac viewpoint.
Any thoughts or advice? ☺
