Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We must have spent an hour in this little museum, it is so full of interesting things. Known people have association with Steyning - WB Yeats and Charles Stewart Parnell (he married Kitty O'Shea there) . The museum volunteers are so welcoming and informative, if you are in Steyning do go, it is free but do leave a contribution (only then will these lovely town museums remain for people to'pop into')

This is one of the best local museums we've visited. It has a fresh, vibrant feel and covers all aspects of the town's long history and extends to aspects of the geology and prehistory. One of the best displays was a town map that illuminated buildings of the 12th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries when the appropriate buttons were pressed. Other highlights include Steyning Man (whose skeleton is strikingly displayed) and maps showing changing geography over time. We spent over an hour there and may well return. The volunteers were welcoming and helpful. It is a credit to the town. The only disappointment was not being allowed to take photographs in the museum.

Steyning was one of the rotten boroughs abolished by the Great Reform Act of 1832 so it has some unique history around that. The museum capitalises on some of that history but it could do more. Unfortunately, its "no photography" policy "due to unexpired copyright" means that we could not record as much of what it contained as we would have liked. Still, worth visiting if you are in the area. But, if you are, don't miss the local parish church just along the road!

This is a low budget but lovingly cared for museum. The exhibits are well done and the people who run it are delightful and ready to share the oral history of the place.

Taking a walk down memory lane. I was brought up in the Steyning area. Lovely people keen to share and listen to my memories too.

We were wandering around this beautiful old West Sussex town one morning recently and found ourselves stumbling into this little museum. OK, honestly we were looking for toilets... But whilst we didn't find any toilets we found ourselves pausing to study many of the exhibits in this fascinating little place. Clearly a lot of loving attention had been taken to build up this museum. I liked the little clothes rack where younger vistors could dress up in period costume. And, this town and the surrounding area really does have a rich and varied history.
If it weren't for burgeoning bladders I'm sure that we would have stayed longer...

Very interesting, and the volunteers on duty were really pleasant, helpful and very interested in their history. No pictures are allowed, but they should really take a couple just to put on this site. There is a section for research, some things for children to do, and the exhibits are very well done. Definitely worth a stop. From High street, turn on Church street. If you've come to St. Andrews Church, you've just passed it on the right.
