Middleport Pottery Home of Burleigh is a unique visitor attraction. We are open to the public and have a whole host of things to see and do.

-Burleigh Factory Shop Open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm/Sun 10am-4pm

-Middleport Visitor Centre Open Tues-Sun 10am-4pm

-Cafe Open Mon-Sun 9am-4pm (Service ends at 3.30pm)

-Factory Tours Tues-Thurs at 11am and 2pm, and Fri at 10.30am (all guided tours must be pre-booked)

On arriving at the visitor centre reception situated in the old lodge you can collect a map designed to guide you through areas of the factory that bring to life the history of the building and the people behind the pottery itself. Enjoy tea and cake on the canal side in the cafe. Understand the whole production process on one of the pre-booked guided tours. Then finish the day off with a visit to the Burleigh factory shop, where we have a wide range of handcrafted pottery.

The Prince's Regeneration Trust raised £8.5 million to purchase the Middleport Pottery site and to carry out restoration work which prevented existing jobs and skills from being lost from the area and will ensure the future of this unique site. The funding came from a range of sources including the Regional Growth Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and European Regional Development Fund as well as from private donors, Stoke-On-Trent City Council has been a key partner in the project.

Middleport Pottery continues to be the 'Home of Burleigh'; the pottery business which occupies approximately half the site. Burleigh is now owned by Denby Holdings and they continue to produce beautiful ware in the building which has been their home since it was built in 1888.

Opened in 2014 Middleport Pottery features a visitor's centre, Tearoom, Middleport Studios, Burleigh Factory Shop, Exhibitions and fully restored Steam Engine.

Went for a class with the lovely Jon French in his studio. This was great fun. Would recommend doing this to people of all abilities. I am definately of the clueless but keen type. Jon has the ability to make you feel you are not a lost cause.

Recently visited Middleport Pottery for the first time, though I've lived in the potteries my whole life! After recent coverage of the factory on BBC2 (The great pottery throw down) they seem to be advertising more events, specifically in the evening. So I came with a friend to watch a singer, Holly Reynolds, who sang songs from the 50s/60s. Access... More

Didn't know what to expect but had an excellent factory tour. Very good tour guide who was very knowlegeable and didn't sound as if she was reciting a script. Very traditional pottery with some period machinery (including a steam engine) for manufacturing a wide range of pottery branded as Burleigh and other pottery ranges. Fascinating to watch a skilled workforce,... More

There is plenty to see and although we didn't take the factory tour (I have seen many in my work) if the rest of the museum is anything to go by then it would be worthwhile. The old offices show old invoices, letters and photos and give a real taste of working life in earlier days. If you are lucky... More

What a great place to visit. Finding out the history of the pottery industry. Fab place to visit with the kids too, as you can play and mould your own piece of air dry clay, take a trip around the factory, they even have exhibition of all sorts of arts and crafts and take a well deserved rest in the... Cycled from Sandbach to the delightful Tea Room, had a flat white and scone with jam and cream. Service was friendly and fast, one of my favourite places for sure.

Middleport is a working pottery but dates back to Victorian times and the processes seen date largely from that time. The factory tour is well worth doing as you can see the whole process that the clay goes through to create the finished items. The application of the patterns before the final firing is particularly interesting. Our guide was very... More
