A lovely walk!
May 2020 • Couples
We visit every year to see the blue bells, which are usually amazing! We missed the this year due to lockdown but still enjoyed a lovely quiet walk yesterday. Well maintained paths and plenty of pull ins to let people past. Lots of shade in the warm weather from colourful trees and a lovely little pony in the field on the way in. Parking easy in the road by the Priory Pub.

what a place for a walk, very peaceful and just beside the bristol, one of the most beautiful forest around and easy to find, parking a bit tricky but there are few spots on the street, if not there is always local pub car park

Bluebell Woods
Apr 2019 • Solo
Visited these secret hidden woods just outside the village. There is no dedicated parking, like most people I parked in a passing place! Steep stony walk upto the secret woods. This place is detnot advertised and was a little difficult to find, but worth the effort. Quiet away from people, but the M5 noise was a little annoying.

A nice spot although slightly steep.

Parking was a little tricky but I managed to locate a spot in the village nearby.
The woods are led to by a stone bumpy narrow pathway which is located next to 17 Caswell Lane and by a pretty little stream too.
The woods have a few pathways branching off the main route and one leads to the nature reserve.
I found my wander very enjoyable however a little on the noisy side as the M5 motorway is extremely close by.
Visited 5th April 2019.

Not sure I want to share this beautiful lonely place. There is no dedicated parking so get there early and be considerate.

beautiful area to visit and walk dog

beautiful spot. we parked in the layby in portbury village and walked up into the woods. it was a very hot day and the woods provided wonderful shade. we had never visited before so ended up spending 2.5 hours wandering the paths. we saw a stream, ponds, bridges, some very steep steps and huge wooded valleys. it has a lovely feel to it, certainly some challenging terrain in places. my only gripe would be the map is a little confusing and perhaps some signs or markings around the place would help, like the options at leigh woods for example. however this place is highly recommended and afterwards pop into the village and go to the priory pub!

A great place to see the blue bells in spring. Quite a hike from the road, but well worth the effort.

Its difficult to judge the best time this year - we went Mid May and they were still there in quantity BUT darkening so I guess about another 10 days left/end of May.

We've made Priors Wood a bit of an annual tradition! The blue belle's are just something else in the height of season (Late April-May) so many great photo opportunities! The Priory pub is a great spot for a drink afterwards too!
