About
Housed in a converted 400 year old barn, the Leaping Hare restaurant, has been in the Good Food Guide for 20 consecutive years, as well as being a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide. We serve a blend of modern and traditional European dishes, made with thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Wyken Cafe boasts the same quality of food and service as our restaurant and serves breakfasts and lunches daily. Offering a slightly lighter option, it can provide the perfect accompaniment to a walk around our gardens.

    Superb!
An excellent lunchtime meal for four of us. Excellent ambience, excellent food, excellent service. Suggests booking in advance and they would seem to be the case, being full on a Friday. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything ran perfectly. For mains two of us had the flat iron steaks and the other two the fish cakes. We’ll be going again when next in the area. Highly recommended. Thank you!

Among the best of British wineries, and good all round
I visited Wyken Vineyards in order to buy samples for a wine tasting. Not only was the wine I purchased excellent and much better value than many competitors, but the staff could not possibly have been more courteous and helpful. Despite my arriving completely unanounced, they provided an impromptu tasting, allowing me to choose from between three wines. They also answered all my questions in detail, and it was a pleasant surprise to find the lady on duty so knowledgable about everything from soil to vinification. The shop was also interesting and very well laid out, and while I didn't visit the restaurant it looked extremely enticing.

lovely garden wrapped around a beautiful manor house
Our 3rd visit to this tranquil spot over a 15 year period. worth seeing again as a well maintained garden of many rooms, all on a human scale, the owners must be very proud of what they have achieved and kept interesting for visitors to enjoy. The shop is well worth a browse as set in a lovely barn, and the bookshop at the rear had some really lovely books on display- as one of the polite notices stated (I paraphrase) "We work hard to find interesting books for you, so please don't buy all your books on Amazon". Well said!

    Amazing food!
Family coming over from NZ and we wanted a great meal nearby. We certainly were not disappointed! Every part of the meal was amazing. The breads for the table was fluffy and tasty. I had the crab with tomato consomme which was really fresh. A main of Suffolk chicken, which was so thick a piece and tender it didnt seem like chicken - best I've ever had! Desert of chocolate ganache was well plated and again, really delicious.

coffee and scones outside. Nice area, lovely view. Coffee was nice, so was scone and cream. On the pricey side for morning coffee, we were just over £20 getting out of there for 2 people. Thats a lot for a coffee and a scone. Scones are a wee bit dry and uninteresting, but over all I enjoyed the outing.

Had breakfast in the cafe on a farmers market day. Lovely warm welcome despite being busy. Breakfast was delicious and decaf coffee was really good. Will return.

Visited the gardens and cafe yesterday. The gardens are beautiful, even on a cold drizzly day. It was great browsing the shop and great selection of lovely books too. We had a delicious lunch at the Moonshine Cafe where you can sit in a gorgeous open sided barn (with heaters) looking out over the countryside. A super casual alternative to the more formal dining experience in the main restaurant with a good selection including freshly made wood fired pizza. Thank you Jack for the delicious Reuben sandwich and your fantastic service with a smile. You looked after us very well.

The pizzas were fairly poor and extremely small. Visually they were abysmal. Ordering is done from a small hut 50m away from where you are seated. The courtyard area is very scruffy with uncomfortable small chairs and ugly metal tables. The pizzas are served in a box (so bad for the environment and so outdated!) There were only 4(in total) ice creams left in the freezer in the cafe. There were no glasses only plastic or paper cups. It was really underwhelming, especially considering the restaurant (which we have visited several times) is pretty good.
I’d recommend the management either do the pizza cafe properly or drop it altogether, as this half hearted attempt does their reputation no good at all.

After 17 years of visiting we were disappointed to find the restaurant cold on the 30th March. We asked if the wood burner, the only form of heat could be lit but we’re told that at 16 degrees it would not be lit! Staff were not interested in the fact we were cold. So we decided not to eat and left.
