About
Royal Liverpool Golf Club is delighted to welcome visitors to play our challenging, historic links. Please see our online Tee Booking system for details, discounts apply on Mondays.Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake has staged major tournaments throughout its long history including 11 Open Championships. The Open made a successful return to Hoylake in 2006 when Tiger Woods achieved his third victory. The Women's British Open will be played at Hoylake for the first time in 2012, then the Open returns in 2014. The Club was formed in 1869, making it the second oldest links in England. Hoylake has a long and distinguished history of golfing firsts: It was host to the inaugural men’s amateur championship in 1885; the first ever international match between Scotland & England in 1902; the first Home International matches & the first transatlantic contest between GB&I & the USA in 1921, an event which became the Walker Cup the following year. In fact, it is Hoylake's contribution to the amateur game that has set it apart from other clubs. The historic memorabilia in the clubhouse is well reknowned. Golfers are welcome to follow in legends' footsteps to play our links.

Walk in the footprints of champions
Nov 2019
The famous golf coast of west England is a must for any golfer and the jewel in this crown is Royal Liverpool/Hoylake. We played Birkdale, Hillside and St Annes, all of which are located on this great strip of links golf coastline but by a close show of hands vote, Hoylake was given the nod. Booking on line is easy, email communications from the club were excellent and you are greeted when you arrive like you're a long time member. As with all these great British Open rota courses, spend an hour and wander through the clubhouse and soak up the history of these famous clubs. The Hoylake course? The pinnacle of British links courses in my view. Every hole is a gem. I was also lucky enough to meet one of the members on the putting green who, upon hearing the Aussie accent, swept me into their Monday competition. Before you rush off to Scotland on your golf trip, make sure you tick off these courses on the English west coast first.

STUNNING DAY OUT
Nov 2019
Played the links today with 3 pals and personally this was the most enjoyable golf day out for me; anytime, anywhere. The course was in exceptional condition for November and from the moment I arrived I was made to feel most welcome by all members of staff from the Asst Pro to the smiling bar staff and house staff. The weather was unbelievable (sunny with very little wind) which helped us all play better golf; the rough was minimal which also helped!!
The clubhouse is splendid, and in my opinion surpasses Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham - there is so much to see and some of the memorabilia is outstanding. The food was very good and also very reasonably priced.
If you love the game of golf take time out to play this wonderful course and walk in the footsteps of legends.

GREAT BRITAIN FINALLY GOT EVEN WITH US!!
Aug 2019
What I mean by that is this is our third trip across the pond to play golf and and 32 rounds of golf in Scotland, Ireland and England, and on this day, it didn't rain, it poured! This was our first real weather day in three trips so it was hard to be angry but since I'm not likely to go back, it was somewhat disappointing. It rained so hard that while my son and I played, the father of the other family chose to sit it out so three of us headed out into the glooming. I'm sure it is a pretty course in the sun and very challenging but in our weather, it was hard to see the holes and almost impossible to play, but play we did. We also had issue of using mats on some fairway sections due to the upcoming Walker Cup. Actually, the mats helped by giving the ball a little cushion under it.
THis was the first of the three Royals we planned to play in the Liverpool area and sadly, it was the least enjoyable for obvious reasons.
The most enjoyable part of the course was 8-12 where there are some changes in elevation.
So, if you play it, hopefully you will have better weather!!

Nice, but not on the top of the list

(8) of us just got back from playing (6) rounds of golf and enjoyed Royal Liverpool, but wasn't wowed by it. The course is pretty much flat and there wasn't any stand our holes that you walk away, saying wow. The course was in good shape considering the drought they had. Club house is very nice and the history on the walls is amazing.
Our group put Royal Liverpool at the bottom of the Royal courses we played, but it is still very much worth playing.

Difficult golf course

Very nice people and a enjoyable golf course. I would recommend having a caddy as it might be difficult to navigate the course without one.

Great course and experience!

Got to play with my youngest daughter. Friendly reception and great grounds. Very good caddies and the course was great! Played well the first four holes until the course jumped up and bit me. Good rewards for good shots but the course wasn't overly penalizing for the strays. Loved it. Would highly recommend if you have the opportunity.

Great golf course but even better service.

Our aim is to play all of the open golf courses, Hoylake is a lovely golf course especially the first 12 holes and would recommend it to any golfer. However the incredibly friendly people at the course made our day. Be it the people in the pro shop, bar staff or the starter, everyone was so friendly. However 2 members coming up and saying thank you for coming and we hope you enjoyed our course made our day. This type of welcome doesn't happen very often at British golf clubs.

Royal Liverpool golf course
Mar 2018 • Friends
Played Friday 9th March. While most local courses were closed or restricted due to recent heavy rain and snow, Royal Liverpool was fully open and in fantastic condition. We played using Cheshire golf union cards for a reduced green fee of £50 each. Great value to play such an iconic golf course. All staff without exception were welcoming and helpful. Food and drinks in the lounge later were great quality and fairly priced. Can’t wait to play there again.
