Great place to just sit enjoy a picnic whilst enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Of course you can use the lake for boating but just do so slowly in order to enjoy the mountain surroundings.

I love visiting the jetty and watching the eels. Every time I come home I include Lake Rotoiti on my list of "places to visit". I've also recommended this stop to friends and family who have travelled to NZ.

This place is just stunning, lots of walks lots of water activities lots of eels. I would imagine this place gets very busy in the summer time. Easy to get to off highway 63.

A stunning sunny day at Lake Rotoiti. We did the walk through the forest. The birdsong was beautiful.

Like so many of NZ's smaller lakes, Rotoiti is fringed in forest and surrounded by pleasant walking tracks, nature walks & more adventurous climbs & multi-day tramps.

We first visited in the rain, when everything was misty and beautiful. It was made more special by the 20 or so ducklings that were running around our feet. It was also great watching the eels in the crystal clear water, which were huge. We...More

I visited the lake on three different occasions, all with different experiences but all great. The first was a bitter southerly wind which cut through me and the lake was quiet choppy. The second being a sheet of glass, but watch out for the sandflies...More

This is a lovely lake, surrounded by mountains with walking tracks of lengths from half an hour to all day. The lake is popular with water skiers but is big enough to be uncrowded. Watch for the huge and hungry eels by the jetty. The...More

This lake is very stunning. The biggest lake of Nelson Lakes NP. You can drive all the way up. There are ducks and eels. The surface of the water is like a mirror. The reflection of snowcapped mountain was magical.
