'Bodega Tierras Altas' Malbec Experience

88 reviews
Tierras Altas was one of Mendoza’s first boutique wineries, and an excellent producer of Malbec. Enjoy the special opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and see the vineyards, the steel tank room, and the underground cellar. Find out about wine-making techniques that you likely wouldn’t discover otherwise, and best of all, enjoy tastings straight from the oak barrels.

This vineyard is known for Paul Hobbs who is best known as a wine consultant. He was twice named Wine Personality of the Year by Robert Parker, Hobbs was first hired by Robert Mondavi for his expertise in oak aging. Hobbs moved to Opus One and later Simi Winery before exploring Mendoza. He was one of the first Americans to consult in Mendoza and later decided to open Vina Cobos in 1988. My wife and I visited Vina Cobos and enjoyed our visit. The wines were priced much higher than other vineyards we visited and the wines are aged a bit longer than other wines we tasted. However, everyone's taste buds are different. We just know that we were not as fond of the oak aged wine as others. The guy is famous and the tasting was very well done. We also had a nice tour of the wine process.

We visited 7 bodegas in total while in the Mendoza wine region; this place stood out as our top visit. Beautiful grounds, gorgeous tasting area, fun hand-crafted production area that allowed for tours, and a friendly english-speaking guide. But the wine! The wine was fantastic, top notch, and worth the high price (relative to other wineries in the area.) I can't say this enough - you get what you pay for, and then some. If you only visit one, make it Viña Cobos.

Absolutely Exceptional.... If you are in Mendoza this winery NEEDS to be on your list to visit. From the moment you pull up, to the hugs goodbye you won’t want to leave. Our wonderful host, Martina was so great. You can tell they all have a passion for the wine and love what they do. This wine is as special as the people working here and we can’t wait to enjoy our bottles back in the states.

Gillian was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. All of the wine was delicious and we were sad to limit the number of bottles we could bring home. Property is beautiful and well maintained.

Exceptional visit. Florencia was very nice and attentive. Perfect wine selection for the tasting, matching with good cheese and prosciutto. Best tour I have done in Mendoza. Every detail is carefully considered. Personalized. Great wines. They do not rely only on their name their hospitality is beyond fantastic. Worth it every penny spent there. I would recommend it and go back.
