Penderyn Distillery is the only distillery in Wales and one of the smallest distilleries in the world.

One of the few remaining independent distilleries, Penderyn takes its name from the old Welsh village in which it is located and nestles in the foothills of the ancient Brecon Beacons mountain range.

The Brecon Beacons National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty famed for its breathtaking scenery, open moorland, clear rivers and tumultuous waterfalls.

Members of the public can enjoy a distillery tour, take a journey through the history of single malt whisky making in Wales, and understand the distilling process at first hand.

On arrival you will be greeted by your tour guide and taken through to the exhibition area where you can browse at your leisure and learn for yourself the history of whisky making in Wales as well as more general Welsh history.

Watch the short video about how Penderyn first started, and how it has developed since its launch in 2004.

Your guide will then join you and take you through to the next section where you will be able to:

*View the Barley, Malt Bins, Grist Mill, Mash Tun and Fermenters that produce the unique Penderyn Malted Barley Wash.

*View the Single Pot Stills at Penderyn Distillery that were designed by Dr. David Faraday, a descendant of famous physicist Sir Michael Faraday. You can also view the more traditional brand new Double Pot Stills. If distillations are in process you will be able to see the spirit being drawn into the spirit safe. *See the barrel display area when your guide will describe how the different expressions of Penderyn whisky are matured and talk you through the various stages of the maturation process. *Learn about the other products - Merlyn Cream Liqueur, Brecon Five Vodka and Brecon Special Reserve Gin. Feel and smell the botanicals that are used to make Brecon Special Reserve Gin. *Visit the tasting room and sample the products - Penderyn Single Malt Whisky, Brecon Five Vodka, Brecon Gin and Merlyn Cream Liqueur.

*Browse the retail shop for Penderyn Spirits and merchandise.

This was a Christmas gift for two male members of my family - they loved it. Part of the gift was to drive them to and from the event so they could fully enjoy the experience. They couldn't speak highly enough of the experience and both said they would recommend it to friends and also write their own review. I... More

Really enjoyable, educational experience with a few little tipples throughout :) I went with my Dad as he had been bought the experience as a gift. The class was informative and well presented by David as was the tasting session which gave me a better appreciation of the characteristics of whiskey and how to taste them correctly. The tour was... Very interesting insight into how Penderyn whiskey is made. Tour guide was very friendly and informative. The ticket price entitles you to 2 free tasters from the Penderyn selection - an added bonus! Would recommend booking in advance. Slots are about an hour and go up until 5.

A nice place to visit, even though I was feeling a little worse for wear after a previous day of adventure and activities. Brilliant tour, it was quite nice and informative. Whisky was really nice! I need to buy more bottles!!

I went to the Masterclass and had a great time. I was with my daughter and my wife was the driver so had nothing to do. THe staff were fine with her sitting in the exhibition/bar area reading but I feel they have missed an opportunity here as it is vital that there is someone to drive for the Masterclass... More

I visited the Penderyn Masterclass this afternoon and it was a wonderfull experience. The explanations, the nosing game and the tasting in combination with the humor from Ray our "teacher", made it wonderfull to be in. Completely worth the entry fee.

We had friends staying for a few days and decided to visit the distillery. They used to live in Scotland and were used to visiting the famous distilleries there, so I was a little nervous about whether this would come up to scratch. I need not have been concerned. It was very easy to find, with good car parking. We... More

Our guide was Ray who was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Great few hours spent here and a few tasteful samples on this tour. I would thoroughly recommend this but arrange a driver to take you home afterwards so that you can appreciate their fantastic products.

I spotted the distillery when searching for a Christmas present for my dad. I decided to book the Masterclass and can honestly say it didn't disappoint. We both had a brilliant time and Ray who takes the class is really friendly, funny and enhances the overall experience, not to mention his incredibly vast knowledge of whisky. A fantastic experience and... More

A wonderful insight into how whiskey and gin is made. Great that you can actually see the process, have a sample of the produce and get to know the history of Welsh whiskey. Well worth a visit even if your not a whiskey connoisseur.
