About
New Horizons is a purpose built 70ft Narrowboat. She is equiped to take people with disabilities on trips on the canal. She was launched in 1981 and is currently in her 40th year of cruising. The boat has a lift to enable people with mobility issues to enter the main cabin and a fully accessible toilet. Trips are available from April to October, morning, afternoon, all day and in the summer months during the evenings. The trip can go either towards Poynton or towards Whaley Bridge dependant on the requirements of the party or at the skippers discretion. All parties must have at least one person who has a Special Educational Need, Physical or Sensory disability, Speech Language or Communication Need any age related need, eg mobility assistance. All needs covered by the DDA including medical are covered. Our current clients include, local support groups, church groups, care homes and families. See us at Local festivals throughout the year.

What a fabulous afternoon ! On the new Horizon
A gentle sail along the canal with great Company
Afternoon tea and the wonderful sights along the way , the sun shone on this October day , we were looked after by the skipper and his friendly crew a special mention to Jean a volunteer who catered for our every need couldn’t have wished for more from her
We boarded as passengers and left as friends
Thank you horizon and all who sailed on her
We look forward to repeating our journey next season

Having had very successful previous trips with just the two skippers my last booking involved a third crew member. To avoid any misunderstandings I would recommend asking, before the cruise begins, what is the role and duties of the third crew member. And agree that unless they need to undertake these duties during the cruise that they remain at all times at the stern.

We had a wonderful trip today. Fantastic experience , crew were amazing, facilities on board excellent. So peaceful travelling along and lots of wildlife. Highly recommend, we will definitely do this trip again.

We booked New Horizons as a mothers day treat and had a really lovely day! Mum is in a wheelchair and it was her first time out in a long while due to illness. We were assisted to board the barge with ease, and were well looked after. The barge was spacious, clean and comfortable. The cruise along the canal was peaceful and relaxing....lovely family time which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We can highly recommend the jams and chutneys available on board! A big thanks to all involved... the gentleman helping with our booking, the kind lady who came to find us and direct us to the barge when we got slightly lost, and the crew on board. Thank you New Horizons for providing these opportunities and helping to make happy memories....hopefully we will return soon!

Had a lovely and relaxing half day trip down to Poynton and back, We were very well looked after by Ken and Ian and finished the trip far more knowledgeable than when we departed. Would heartily recommend to anyone looking to enjoy the scenery and dialed down pace of life. All facilities were great as well.

What a wonderful morning we have spent with our 8 year old Grandson on the New Horizons canal boat. It is £60 well spent. Ian the skipper and Gina on helm were an absolute delight. Ian took time to explain such a lot of information about the history of the canals and much of the wildlife. Gina was very knowledgeable about the history and use of the boat. I was very impressed with her driving ...70ft and 22 tons...unbelievable ! My Grandson wants to go again next Sunday !
They were both so patient answering questions from an inquisitive child.

We had a wonderful day on New Horizons narrowboat. We were six people aged from 5 to 75, and everyone of us had a great time. Our 7 year old said it was the best day of her life. This was helped by a terrific, generous and knowleable crew who took us up the Peak Forest Canal. We will definitely come again and would encourage everyone else to go on a trip. I have mobility problems and there wasn't anything I was unable to do. Thank you for a glorious day.

Yes we welcome dogs as part of the group. Just to be aware that there may be limited opportunities to get off this would need to be discussed with the Skipper.
