Another nice walk down from Marple towards Woodley taking in the magnificent Marple Aquaduct. A fabulous feat of engineering which opened in 1800 and still stands proud 100 feet above the Goyt Valley. The adjacent train line adds to the spectacle. We walked all the...More

If you want a really interesting walk along the canal and watching the narrowboats move from lock to lock (at very slow speed) with pleasant scenery as a bonus. Not too energetic ... this is the walk for you.

Lovely evening walk down the canal. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Samuel Oldknow and Outram, Brown and Arkwright, the canal and locks are bursting with history. Running alongside, in part, Brabyns Park, you can deviate off the beaten path to enjoy another...More

We stumbled on the locks by chance when we were out walking with friends from America. They were bowled over watching a canal boat go through the locks. Its not something you see every day so it was a very pleasant experience.
