Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just like the last time I came here, there were many Chinese group tourists this time too. It was the off-season and Onuma was quiet, but it was bustling with Chinese group tourists. It's possible to go there and back from Hakodate by JR train, but this time I came to Onuma Park by bus from Hakodate Airport instead of going to Hakodate city. On the way back, there is a JR express train about once an hour, so I took that to Hakodate city. Onuma Park is a lake formed by the eruption of Mt. Komagatake, and the beautiful scenery of many floating islands has not changed.

This quasi-national park is located in Nanae-cho, Hokkaido. Its symbol is the pointed-hat-like Mount Hokkaido Komagatake, which can be seen across the pond.
We walked along two courses, the Oshima Trail and the Island Hopping Trail.
These courses cross numerous islands on bridges.
In places where the water was calm, we enjoyed the reflections.

There are several walking paths that take less than an hour each.
Plenty of refreshment opportunities
Many activities including boat rentals, horse back riding, rented fishing gear and all types of bikes, 2, 3 wheels and double riders.

I actually did not have this park on the itinerary, but it just was recommended. Very beautiful landscapes, even in winter. All the trees, snow, and frozen water.

We detour to the park while on the way back to Sapporo from Hakodate. It turned out to be a nice relaxing walk in the park. Beautiful scenery and perfect for some picture taking.

We visited the park on our drive from Hakodate to Lake Toya.
Picturesque scenery with forests, lakes, bridges & Mount Komagatake. Not crowded.
There are a number of easy walking trials, great for peaceful & relaxing strolls. The many bridges with steps may prove to be challenging for the elderly folks though.
Worth a visit!

Dec 2018
It was snowing very heavily the day we made the trip to this beautiful park. At the gate, we almost wanted to turn back because there was not a single visitor in sight. I was afraid we would be trapped in a snow storm. After checking with one of the staff, I decided to brave the snow shower.
Onuma was an attraction I was determined to visit after my first visit in Dec 2016. This time, it was still as beautiful. The thick blanket of snow made the place look very alluring. It was a sight for me as a Singaporean since I live in a tropical country.
Another reason to visit Onuma was to sit at Rivage. Unfortunately despite making several attempts to locate the restaurant in the thick snow, I couldn’t find the place. I was disappointed! I wish there were clearer signs in extreme snow condition to guide visitors.
Take a morning train to this national park. Spend 3-4 hours strolling leisurely.

We have visited the Park by the end of October but the weather was not that good. Despite of the windy condition, we walked around portion of the park and took photos on the surrounding environment. We have also have our snacks in the restaurant inside and it was really relaxing.

If weather is fine, it would worth to stop by and spend an hr or 2 exploring this park when you are driving away from Hakodate heading to Sapporo or North. While we were there, weather was gloomy with light drizzle. Yet we found it to be pleasant for a relax stroll overs some of the stone bridges, and taking photo along the shores of the lake. If weather is good, we would have gone further and spend more time exploring more well established paths.

There are many walking paths recommended for visitors. Many sites are available along these paths for one to take great photos. There are also boat hiring in the park and it's worth spending an hour in rowing boat to see the park from the lake. If you don't fancy boat rowing you can still get on a large boat tour to see the better view of the park.

We will be travelling on the train from Hakote to Sapporo and stop Onumakeon station to visit this national park. Is there a luggage storage for few hours at this station?
Written 21 December 2016
Not too sure cos we rented a car instead of taking train. However we know that most train stations in Japan has luggage storage but some are very limited in small towns.
