It's not a metaphor: It's a really BLUE bond. Although it's in the center of a forest, it has a spacious parking lot near the entrance.

Although it was "closed" (frozen and full of snow), it was a beautiful trip, and so much snow everywhere...

It’s just a short walking distance to the pond from the parking area. Whole place was in white. Didn’t expect to snow. It’s so beautiful and mesmerising. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited on Sunday afternoon and have traffic jam in reaching the place. Luckily, we arrived a bit late just at good timing before sunset to see the colourful leaves before sunset.

The Blue Pond was located along our journey to Shirahige Fall and it is worth a stop by Blue Pond to see it's unique colour. On the way back, we dropped by to see the lighted pond.

Most likely yes, Hokkaido is basically all white in winter. To be honest I have not been to the Blue Pond in winter, but what's the point to see a white pond when it's world famous for its blue and green colours?
