About
Gaasbeek Castle is currently closed until 2023 for a large restoration campagn. Gaasbeek Castle is a unique historic house with an extensive collection that has grown organically with it. We are the permanent custodians of this piece of heritage. We present this house and its collection in a bold way as a heritage laboratory and inspiring place to meet. The castle is a ‘work in progress’: we develop systematic innovative initiatives which we share with the local heritage community and beyond. In so doing we put our visitors first: we excite, move and invite them to reflect. We work on an interdisciplinary basis and reach a collective vision of how to enhance art, heritage, nature, education and tourism. All this with attention to quality and maximum social relevance.

Unfortunately the castle is closed for reconstruction, only park is accessible. It is just a small park but enjoyable for walk and relax after work. Without possibility to visit the castle it this place worth a visit if you are in the area but not a long traveling.

The castle was renovated / rebuild in 19th century to resemble what the 19th century nobles expected how a renaissance castle would look like. Rich interiors with 19th century courtyard and older outside walls, reflecting the older military function. The castle has a very interesting fruit garden as well. Very good audio guide, and quite interesting info on the last owner, who donated the castle to Belgium.

The castle makes for a nice visit. It’s only 20 or so miles outside of Brussels. Inside the castle walls is very nicely decorated, but the star of the show is the interior garden in the courtyard.
While doing the audio guide through the castle, it was very distracting to be constantly followed by castle employees. There are cameras in every room and I’m not sure why they felt the need to keep an eye on us at all times. We were the only ones touring the castle, so maybe they were bored? Or perhaps my wife, mother and I look suspicious?
Be sure to visit the brasserie outside the castle grounds for a tasty lunch.

The building and park is the best thing. a wonderful break on a lazy sunday. The walk from the parking space takes around 10 min. There is not that much information about the castle itself. The rooms are quite small and filled with a art exhibit. If you are interested in paintings then it is defenitly something to come and see. The museum garden is beautiful, buy a combo ticket with the castle and park included and take the stroll trough the garden on your way back to the car park.

Lovely castle with, when we visited, an exposition of Bruegel was a lovely 2 hours.
Admittance fee was a bit expensive but when you account the castle the gardens and Bruegel it is just about acceptable.

It was a waste of money really.and looking through some rooms in a castle. With a temporary gallery of rotten and dead animals on a picture which was basically proper disgust. Nothing to see here really bit arguably they spent a lot of money in bringing the place up with all kind of information for tourists. Then you go try and go to the garden where they dont let you in as you should buy the ticket back at the palace where nobody told you. Btw they let us peek into the garden where in october it was only mud and dry leaves. Seriously! The nearby restaurant was great for a beer though.

Great building to walk through and soak up the athmosphere. Beautiful park and museum garden, especially when the weather is nice. Spectacular views. The temporary exhibiton however was not worth the trip. My advice: take enough time to slowly walk through th domain, bring your lunch and make a day out of it.

We had guests from the States here and I was looking for an afternoon outing close to Brussels and this did not disappoint. The castle grounds are lovely so be sure to plan enough time for a walk around. We got tickets for the castle and the gardens. The interior of the castle is interesting but not exactly according to the period of the castle but the commentary in English is very entertaining. The amazing thing is the garden. It is a garden museum so you see everything in various stages of growth. And I mean everything. We were in awe of the vegetables and fruits growing there - it takes 5 full time gardeners to mind the place. They give free tours on the weekends (not sure in what language though - we were speaking Dutch to the volunteer guide).

Amazing well appointed historic castle with artwork statues and tapestries on display. Recent artwork interpretations are scattered throughout. Original furniture completes each rooms decor. Allow an hour to visit more if touring gardens

Can you see the outside of the castle if it is closed? I will be driving near there on a Monday when the museum is closed, but I'm thinking it might be worth stopping to see?

Hi, you mentioned in 2017 you visited the Kasteel van Gaasbeek in Belgium by bus. Which bus, and was it from Gare de Midi? Where would you get off the bus to walk to the castle? Is it a long walk? Thank you for your information and help. Be well.

I was with a local family. The castle is great. Try to get to Grote Dorst on Sunday morning if you are in the area.
