It's overpriced (compared to all other theme parks / tourist attractions in the same vein on the island). All the houses, artifacts etc. are old and dilapidated. It might have been great in the past, but now it's truly not worth the long distance bus ride from Naha. It's not even on the same level as the Yaima village on Ishigaki, a much smaller island, but it's really disappointing here. I was hoping to spend at least 2 or 3 hours here, but didn't last past 45minutes.

The current conditions of the park is sad. I hope it'll improve in the future.

Visiting this travesty of a site was quite liberating for me as it is the last cultural center I will ever visit in my life, and I like cultural centers. It was that bad. It is a complete rip-off. No non-Japanese person should get near this place and no Japanese person either for that matter.

People writing positive reviews of this place are either stoned or mentally incapacitated. It is literally the worst cultural center I have ever been to, and I have traveled the world and been to many.

The facts about this place are indisputable, and I will list them here. Here is what your 1200 yen entry ticket:

* a look an an instrument pavilion with instruments you can't touch (absolutely nothing going on)
* a thimble full of awamori or sake that is hard sold at inflated prices
* a snake show that has been closed for 16 years (an old guy walking around with a headset he doesn't use pointing to one snake in a jar)
* a chance to pay $30+ to make a cloth, placemat, or clay object that CAN'T be shipped out of Japan!!!!
* a chance to visit a snack bar
* a chance to pet a water buffalo that looks like it is about to die
* a chance to see an unmanned water wheel that should be grinding sugarcane is they bothered to staff it
* a sad dance performance you can barely see
* chance to visit a traditional house serving tea only to be told you didn't get the tea ticket
* occasional music performances at a octave that will pierce eardrums
* a chance to buy dry snacks while the attendant gives you stink eye for drying them
* a chance to rent a costume and take an embarrassing picture
* a chance to buy Crocs, yes Crocs

I saw bored Japanese seniors and children in droves. This is THE most culturally bankrupt exhibit I have ever seen. I cry for Ryukyu culture which I know is interesting. See the center on Taketomi Island off of Ishigaki which is both free and very well done.

Do not go here unless you want to throw money out the window, be bored to tears, or spend hours making bad crafts that you can't send home.

You have been thoroughly warned by my extremely unpleasant experience. This was an hour and a half of my life that felt like I lost at least a day. And Ryukyu culture loses even more if not everything through this crass commercialism with no honest attempt to celebrate or preserve what was an amazing culture.

I thought I could learn something about the Ryukyu culture and history but it wasn’t meant to be. 1,200 yen is merely the fee to pay to enter the ground. Everything else from tasting to making will cost extra. I didn’t spend an extra dime and finished walking the area in 15min. The saving grace were the scheduled performances but the dance was only 5min instead of the advertised 10min. The traditional singing at 5pm was good though, but still is not worth the time and money.

Go somewhere else. Ocean Expo Park has a free replica village.

This being my first trip to Japan and Okinawa, I was really looking forward to visiting Ryukyu Mura to learn more about Okinawan culture. If you don't know any Japanese or have not done any pre-reading on Okinawan culture, this can be a bewildering experience for you as it had been for me.

I had picked up an English brochure of Ryukyu Mura from a travel office. The brochure contained a brief explanation of the various houses in the park and I expected to learn more once I got there. Little did I know that what was in the brochure was the extent of the English signage at the park. Everything else was in Japanese. Even the staff that were at each house who were there to demonstrate either an art form or offer tea did not speak any English. So I did not learn anything more than what I had read in the brochure. Additionally, although there is a disclaimer in fine print in the brochure that the show schedule was subject to change, I did not realize to what extent until I arrived at Ryukyu Mura. The 9 a.m. Eisa (drum dance) was supposed to be at the guard place square, but actually was done in the Champloo theater, so I missed that. Then I missed part of the next Eisa show because it actually happened at noon instead of 1 p.m. as stated on the schedule. The brochure did not clearly explain that the Michi Junee consisted of a variety of performances, so that was a nice surprise, as I saw the entire thing. Except it was missing the Miruku part. I was interested in doig the ceramics crafts but when I got to the pottery area, there was no signage in English providing guidance as to whether the staff-led ceramics class only happened at certain times during the day. Walking through the pottery building was interesting and there are already-made items available for sale. The sugarcane mill area was also nice; the water buffaloes were clean, did not smell, and allowed you to pet them and take close up photos. I did not get a ticket to the Habu show, based on a review here on TA and I don't feel like I missed anything. I walked through the habucenter and saw two cages of snakes (pit viper and a non-poisonous variety) and a cage of rutting mongoose. The brochure makes it look like the park is bigger than it actually is. One can actually see and go through all the exhibits within two hours. Add an extra hour if you want to see either the Michi Junee or the Eisa performances, however I would caution planning your visit around the printed show schedule, because when they say "Schedules are subject to change," they really mean it!

I don't know if getting an English audioguide would have helped make this a better experience; perhaps someone else who has can leave a review here on TA. I just came away from Ryukyu Mura feeling disappointed at the experience. I felt it was lacking. I'm glad I had someone to share the transportation cost of getting to Ryukyu Mura from Ginowan City (~3940 JPY one way in a taxi) or I would have felt swindled. We had allotted 5 hours at Ryukyu Mura and had arranged for the taxi driver to return to pick us up but by the third hour, we were ready to leave.

We were disappointed with our visit to this park. The cost of entry does not include any of the many activities that are available within the park so if your children wish to participate in an art event or a ride on a oxen you will need to fork over more and more money. By the time we completed the park we could help but feel like we were taken advantage of. The concept of the park is to charge you an entry fee as well as a charge each of the various activities available within the park.

Sadly this concept of charge per activity after having paid an entry fee appear to be the standard in Okinawa as we experienced the same thing at other parks we visited.

You will leave feeling like you have experienced a classic tourist trap.

Disclaimer: I can speak and read Japanese, so I cannot give any feedback on English speaking ability of the staff.

Lovely variety of architecture, music and dance, and handicrafts of the Okinawan people. There's also stands to purchase and sample Okinawan snacks. Staff were friendly, though the map was clear enough that interaction wasn't too necessary. Maps were available in several languages. Would be good trip for children or adults.

Typical assortment of souvenir shops that you'd expect in the city (keychains, t-shirts, etc), though there's also an interesting building sells locally made crafts (I asked to make sure they were local products). I purchased a uniquely shaped Okinawan teapot as a present for my mom. She loved the style and I was happy to support local business.

It is after the american village. You can get here by local bus, 1.5 hour from city center. We came by private car. The driver just wait for us. This is the second time we visited. We came because we wanted to catch the drum performance but for some reasons, the drum show was reduced to 10 minutes.

It was crowded with students. However, we did not see any other performance. Just traditional house, sourvenir shops, etc. We had a quick lunch here. You just order from counter some okinawa soba, yakitori, salad, etc.

We tried the soft ice cream as well.

We were hoping for more performances but due to rainy seasons, they may reduce the shows.

I think they should review the activities. The last trip i saw some habu snakes in a bottle but this time, we did not see any.

There is a costume rental shop.

We went through the pottery shop and everyone just get through so quickly.

There was a buffalo at one exhibit to showcase traditional work. The buffalo moving around helps propel the machine to press the bamboo for pulp. These days we just switch on the blender so the buffalo may be unemployed.

It is educational but there is a need to revamp the entire place.

I think there is a need for someone to explain the place to visitors.

I will still visit Okinawa but dont think I will visit this place again.

We went to the Ryukyu Mura due to vicinity to our hotel in Onna. Expectations were not too high and right so.

Try to bring a coupon for entry discount if you find it online/info counters.

Inside most of stuff rotates around handcrafts which you can participate in (for an extra fee).

If you really have 1-2 hrs to spend go there, if you are on tight schedule, do not feel guilty skipping it.

I was expecting more from this village according to the reviews here. I bought a combination ticket of Churaumi Aquarium and Ryukyu Village from OTS at a discounted price. The tickets had to be picked up at Ryukyu Village first. We were there after 2pm and the place was eerily desolated. The activity booths in the village were not really manned. One activity that I was looking forward to was the making Sata Andagi. Unfortunately, that had to be booked prior to the visit. It was not clearly stated in the village's English website. Instructions in the Village pamphlet was not clear. Probably due to that, we were unable to enjoy the potential of the village fully.

The performances were good, especially the last parade. There was an endearing old lady who charmed everyone at the parade, besides the very cute lion performance. I presume that she is the centenarian and icon of Ryukyu Village.

I will not visit this place in the afternoon even though it opens until 6 p.m.

Cultural stuff with different ways to earn your money.
Like taking photos in different costumes.
I like nature more.
However, I must say the staff are very helpful.
We haven't eaten anything when we arrived there for snorkeling. They really helped us to find some cup noodles for breakfast.
Thanks a lot.
