A wonderful experience on our Japan trip
Dec 2018
We stayed in this quiet and peaceful temple for one night during our trip to Japan. From the moment we arrived to the last it was an unforgettable experience. All staff at the hotel were very nice, the room we stayed in was comfortable and opened up to a beautiful tranquil garden. The meals were an experience on their own, my friend is vegetarian so we were really looking forward to them and both dinner and breakfast were exquisite. We also attended morning meditation and walked around the temple area to discover the sights in town. Everything was easy walking distance. I would love to re-visit this place, I highly recommend it.

An Unforgettable experience
Jun 2018 • Couples
At Jokiin you will be welcomed by the most kind hearted and friendly people. Everything about this place has thought and kindness to it. The food is amazing and plenty. The temple is few steps from the bus stop. Don't worry about which bus to take, at the cable car station there are staff who guide you to the right bus. We were there on a Wednesday and there was a little local market outside the temple where we purchased some home made snacks for lunch. To get there with JR you will need to go through few changes and still have to pay for Hashimoto to Koyasan anyways. I would just get the direct train from Namba to Koyasan for 1000yen extra (still few train changes in the same platform) . Namba is in Osaka. The cable car to Koyasan is a very exciting experience too.

Great Hospitality, Beautiful temple
May 2018 • Couples
In a country like Japan where people are super nice, the hospitality we experienced here is better than any Japanese 5 star hotel. The facilities are better than Japanese business hotels. There's a private shower room you can use in the morning and other public bathing spaces. No locks for doors, but that's ok. The food was sumptuous. The morning ceremony was not very long and peaceful. This was the best stay of my Japan trip.

Very nice place to stay
Apr 2018 • Friends
When you visit Koya-San, Jokiin is a very nice place to stay. There are multiple sights and temples nearby. The food they serve is great. At night you can take a nice, hot bath in the bath house. The shower is not good. The rooms are warm and the beds are comfortable.

Wonderful Shuubo (temple lodging)
Nov 2015 • Couples
A staple of travelling to Koyasan, staying in a temple is a rather unique experience. Jokiin is one such temple providing accommodation. It's run by three monks who, despite their limited English, go to great lengths to make you feel at home. The rooms are beautiful, the food is delicious, and the 6:00 morning prayers, which you are invited to join, are justifiably entrancing. We also enjoyed talking to one of the monks and learning more about the particular history of Jokiin, including the symbolism associated with its founder.

Koyasan is small, but Jokiin is centrally located in any case. We'd recommend staying here is you are interested in visiting the area. Be advised that there are no ensuite facilities, although the level of cleanliness was without blemish. And the place even has wi-fi.

Some final notes: be polite, and approach this place of worship accordingly. Do not wear your yukata (traditional japanese night gown) to the morning prayers. Have a look around the temple, as the grounds are particularly exquisite.
